Elvira Takes On The World
Elvira returns with another set of DVDs. This time she's got 4 episodes on tap, two of which are previously unseen (I guess they didn't air during the 2010 run of the show). The episodes are loosely themed because they deal with giant monsters of one sort or the other. This wasn't the strongest set, but that has nothing to do with Elvira; her antics, as usual, keep these tired, often dull movies afloat.Movies contained are "Teenagers from Outer Space", "Giant Gila Monster", "Attack of the Giant Leeches" and "Monster from a Prehistoric Planet". None of them are very good, yet each of them delivers some low brow entertainment and a lot of fodder for Elvira's barrage of puns and quips."Leeches..." For instance has an excellent skeezy performance by Yvette Vickers that ends up being the highlight of the film. "Monster..." has terrible dubbing and "Teenagers..." is filled with amazing Wood-ian dialogue. "Gila Monster" may be the best film in the set based on technical merit, but it's not as much fun as the others when it gets the Elvira treatment. For her part, Elvira goes about her usual antics feuding with the IRS, an imposter hostess, a pet lizard and a mid-life crisis. Like all the other sets, this is worth getting for her, but there are better sources for the films.

Elvira Is Good ; The Movies Are Not
Elvira's Movie Macabre: Giant Monsters consists of four movies: Giant Gila Monster, Attack of the Giant Leeches, Monster From A Prehistoric Planet, and Teenagers From Outer Space. Elvira is good as always, but is this DVD set worth buying just for her? The short answer is "not really".Giant Gila Monster is a pretty bad movie about a giant lizard killing someone off every half hour. The only time this movie is even remotely entertaining is when the drunk redneck character is onscreen. 2 stars out of 5.Attack of the Giant Leeches is the worst of the lot. It is extremely poorly paced, with very little action. The leeches are hard to see, also. 1 star out of 5Things pick up a bit with Monster From A Prehistoric Planet. It's a Godzilla rip-off that actually has some good action scenes, but also a ton of boring talking scenes. 2 1/2 stars out of 5.The "best" movie on this set is Teenagers From Outer Space. It's a pretty campy sci-fi movie that I kinda liked. It's not great, but it's about as "good" as a movie included on Elvira's Movie Macabre can get. 3 stars out of 5.The problem I have with Elvira's Movie Macabre is that I like Elvira, but most of the movies she shows are godawful. The same can be said for Mystery Science Theater, but those guys had funnier quips and a lot more of them. Let's hope that Elvira has her own movie soon. I'm sure (like Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark and Elvira's Haunted Hills) that it will be way better than any of the movies included on this DVD.

An impressive set.... of movies
Elvira is really kicking it up a notch on these newer sets. I was a bit cautious in trying this out since i would be double-dipping over the Mystery Science Theater 3000 versions. I couldn't be happier with these. Elvira has gotten more interactive with the films rather than only for "commercial breaks", popping-up during the film in the corner to poke fun at the film. What she has added beyond that are larger skits and the mentioned interactivity. One example is on Giant Gila Monster... she actually threw really funny subtitles over the foreign girl's speech. The added touches make the films much more fun to watch. I would describe in more detail, but would rather not spoil it. There is an interesting bonus where she does a reverse cosplay of Hanna Minx off YouTube, spoofing her JWOW / "Minxy" video... since Hanna Minx had cosplayed Elvira, it was good for a giggle. It is refreshing to see Elvira working hard to improve her presence on these shows as well as the internet. These DVD's are fun and she spoofs them differently than Mystery Science Theater - Good Stuff!!!

Elvira is great and the movies are fine
Elvira is great and the movies are fine.I'm giving a low rating because even though the DVD pack of "Elvira's Movie Macabre: Mega Movie Marathon" has subtitles, the rest of the Movie Macabre does not. No captions either. This goes for "Giant Monsters", "Bloody Madness" and "Wild Women" collections. These all look like they're part of the same modern series, the E1 Entertainment series produced in 2011. I don't understand why the Mega Movie Marathon pack has subs but the rest do not.I understand the Shout Factory Double Feature DVDs not having subs as all of those are just a repackaging of Elvira shows that aired in the 80s and subs were probably never made for them back then, but the E1 series is new and the largest dvd pack has them and the rest do not.

Elvira at Her Best
This DVD is well worth the purchase price if you appreciate the wit and looks of Elvira. She really rips on "Teenagers(?) From Outer Space" which itself is well worth the money spent as Elvira taps into her inner teen. The 3 other flicks on this DVD are "Giant Gila Monster" with Elvira as pet sitter extraordinaire, "Attack of the Giant Leeches" with Elvira dealing with the IRS, & "Monster from a Prehistoric Planet" in which Elvira battles rip-off artist Elmyra. Highly recommended for Elvira fans!!

Elvira
Very happy. The movies are low, low, low budget, but that's what makes them great. Along with Elvira's witty "critiques".
