The C&O Canal Companion: A Journey through Potomac History

Liked it so much I bought it twice
We got a copy of this while visiting the C&O near Williamsport (Maryland, NOT Pennsylvania :) ) Turned out that Canal Quarters ALSO had a paper copy in the lock keeper's house we stayed in. After getting home, we found the electronic version on Amazon. We loved the paper copy, but REALLY liked being able to search electronically. There is SO much great information that NO one could get it all into an index. Our paper copy is now with family that are thinking about spending a little time on the C&O.Just as it is, the C&O is remarkable. If you read this book, you get a far better idea of just how remarkable every mile of this national resource truly is!

Very helpful
This book provided a thorough, mile by mile portrait of the C&O Canal National Park. It's currently accurate and helpful for navigating a thru-hike or bike trip, as well as a visit to any site along the canal. Those interested in the vast history of these regions, and identifying the significance of ruins will want this book too.

Updated for changes in the canal.
Makes more of the seconds done in the last few years. This will have to be updated again as the Park Service is in the process of refurbishing from lock 2 to 22. The effort is to allow the rewatering of the canal in the area between DC to Pennyfield lock.

Amazing book - it not only coverers locks
Amazing book - it not only coverers locks, dams and key areas along the C&O canal but it addresses the history of towns, civil war actions and even revolutionary war related events. I am very impressed by the detail and breath of historical events along the C&O canal that previously I was not aware. I highly recommend this book!
