My favorite badge reel. Much nicer than the plastic ones!
These badge reels are awesome. My company uses very similar ones, but made of plastic. I have broken SO MANY of the plastic/kevlar badge reels in the past few years I got tired of going to our security desk to ask for a new one every few months and bought a (very affordable) box of 40 of them. After breaking some myself, and replacing some co-worker's badge reels who also didn't want to go to the "company source" for various reasons, my box of 40 ran out.I bought these three as a replacement, and my first one is going strong still 6 months later. The failure points on my old ones:Primarily the clip to body housing - the plastic housing would break when too much torque was applied to the clip (caught on a chair/door frame) These ones are very durable in that regard, and if anything broke there it would be the metal clip "unbending" - still strongSecondarily the kevlar string which attached the badge to the housing. In my old ones this would become worn and frayed from abrasion with the plastic housing, and if not otherwise destroyed, the string would break. This one looks to have a very thin braided cable with some kind of coating applied. the very end of the cable looks a little "bent" - but no signs of it degrading to a failure point any time soon.Thirdly, plastic housing separating - occasionally an impact would cause the two halves of the plastic housing to separate in an explosion of string and spring. I imagine that is much less an issue with these, but have yet to subject them to any serious punishment in this regard. All in all, I am really glad I got these.

Doesn't stay clipped on and wire gets warped
These are a little heavy and the clip isn't very tight. My work ID is constantly falling off my pants. I've tried clipping it onto my waistband, my pocket, my belt loop, etc - makes no difference. The first one broke after two weeks. The wire got all twisted and bent. I'm a few weeks into my second one, but that one is getting warped as well. The cheap plastic ones have never once fallen off, but the retractable string breaks after several months. Still, they last must longer and I don't have to worry about my ID falling into the toilet, which is what happened with this metal ID holder.

Great Product!
These are excellent badge reels. I had been buying a cheaper plastic version at the local hardware store and they were alright but the string would always wear out and break. These are using a metal cable with a plastic coating it appears and while I have only been using one for a few weeks them do seem like they will be far more durable. I am very pleased with this purchase and with a three pack I have two spares so I may not buy these for a decade and I like that!

Each lasts about 7 months. Decent value for the price.
Ordered this in September 2016, and the cord snapped off from the clip in April 2017. Just normal usage - attached to a belt loop on my jeans, and most badge readers at my job are waist-level, and I extend the cord about 5-7 times per weekday.I've come to learn these things simply don't last forever no matter where you buy them from. This one comes with 3, and if each lasts 7 months, then that's 1 year 9 months of a badge reel for $10. So if that seems like a good value compared to other badge reels, then give these a shot.

The great thing about buying a product that provides 3 of ...
The great thing about buying a product that provides 3 of the items is that you get more than a single sample so that you can get a more accurate estimation of the quality of the product. I can say that all 3 badges were fails. None lasted more than 2.5 months of light use (a couple of pulls a day, for 3-4 days a week). The first two failed as a result of a break in the cable. On inspection I counted 7 individual thin wire strands within the plastic-coated cable - which seems like it should be a durable configuration. But, demonstrably, it is not. The third badge failed in an interesting manner - the screw in the middle of the badge that holds the whole affair together began to loosen. The clever design of the badge makes it impossible to tighten the screw because it is covered by the non-removable clip. So I was obliged to use the thing as it slowly unscrewed itself, helpless to correct the problem, until the badge fell apart. So, my advice is to not spend money on this item due to unacceptably short longevity of the product.

Cheap - Save your $$
Do not buy. Cheap, cheap cheap. They may look heavy duty, but all 3 of mine have broken since I got them 2 months ago. The first one lasted 1.5 months of using it 4 shifts per week for my work badges (the Cord snapped). My second one lasted 2 weeks before the cord snapped. My 3rd one was defective right from the start and I just threw it away in frustration. I have honestly had the cheap nylon ones last way longer than all 3 of these combined. Don't waste your $$$.

Fail after 5 months use
These are nice badge reels and I had high hopes for these. I loved that they are stainless steel cables, I wanted something heavy duty. I have been using the first one of the three reels for about 5 months and then the cable snapped off about 1/4 inch from the badge end without any sign of failure prior breaking (broken strands, etc...) Very disappointed about that, the cheap ones with just nylon cords last a year or longer. At least they weren't that expensive

Good Quality Reels
The reels appear to more high quality than their plastic counterparts, but as I've had them only a week, they haven't been properly put through their paces yet. They have a nice chrome finish that will attract fingerprints, so I try not to touch them. Nice reels all in all.Update: After nearly a month with them, there is some slight bending in the line, but it doesn't look too serious. They do show fingerprints quite visibly, so don't touch them on the chrome bit. They work well and serve their purpose perfectly.
