We have two dogs and I always worry their microchip aren’t working. So I got this for peace of mind and it works great. And totally affordable.I use two different microchip companies and with one dog, after I scanned him, it gave me a number and when I looked it up all the info was right there. The second dog, I scanned her and it said it was registered and I had to go to that company website and enter number again and finally called to confirm she was indeed registered.So just to let you know, some chip companies work different. But both dogs gave me a number when I scanned them. After you get the number you will have to look it up to confirm it’s registered.

Works well for detecting ISO chips. Great value for money. Bought this to occasionally check that my dogs microchips are in place and working. The beep is a bit loud but it’s fairly quick to detect so it’s not super stressful.

It does not read every type of microchip so while this is a good scanner for most pets you may want to take an animal to a clinic or shelter before you know theres no chip. Its easy to use, compact, and otherwise a useful tool for those who stop and scan animals.

Returning this scanner because even though it technically works, it does not work as advertised. The product box & instructions state "reading distance: 15cm" but I couldn't get a read unless the scanner was within 1cm of the microchip, literally had to have the scanner touching the animal. This is absolutely useless if trying to scan an animal that is stressed &/or not willing to be closely held/handled. Also, the "usb upload to computer" is useless/didn't work.If you need a cheap scanner for your own pets/animals & this is your only option then I guess get it but if you need to scan lost/stray cats & dogs or have an animal that doesn't like being held closely then this is not a good option & it is worth investing more $$ in a better scanner with better range.

I scanned my cat first to test it. It works. Super easy to use. I've also scanned 4 stray cats and ended up finding their owners.

I had a stray cat wander into my yard recently, and bought this to do an initial scan in hopes of reuniting a lost pet with it's owner. Sure enough, the cat had a chip and the reader immediately loaded it! I've now contacted the company where the chip is registered, in hopes that the owners are looking for it. (My own cat has an "AVID" 9-digit chip, and this scanner - as advertised - does not pick the AVID chip up.) The reader is incredibly easy to use - literally right out of the box, I pressed the button, waved it over the cat's back, and the number popped up. Very handy and highly recommended!

This easily read the microchip under the skin and also in the needle (I check before insertion for functionability)

Good, cheap scanner to have on hand. No issues easily and quickly reading any ISO chip

As soon as I came within a few inches of our cats' necks, this reader instantly read the codes from their microchips.The display (albeit small) was very clear and easy to read (even for my old eyes).The only potential issue: you need to be pretty quick to scribble down the number (or take a quick photo of it). If the display times-out (goes dark), you need to re-scan the chip... the data gets zeroed-out when you turn it back on. This was only a minor inconvenience for me - not enough to dock a star from my rating. (Let's call this review a 4.6).Happy with this purchase.
