These smaller drums are meant as kids drums in an effort to get the younger generations involved in drumming circles. The use of a tape measure is rudimentary knowledge, therefore we highly recommend you take a tape measure and visually get a general idea of how large this drum product is before buying. Smaller drums have sound limitations as compared to larger drums. Although the smaller drums will have nice high end tones if tuned tightly, they will lack big bass. If you are looking for big bass, you will need to go with a larger drum providing a bigger diameter playing surface, but expect to pay significantly more as larger trees take longer to grow, hence a more expensive raw material to begin production. In terms of this particular design djembe drum, great rustic smallish drum for the young percussion enthusiast.
