Space Dandy, Vol. 1 (Space Dandy, 1) Paperback – June 28, 2016

This Manga is great! I already ordered the second book and can't wait to read it... there is a lot more material in here that is not in the show yet a lot of familiar moments in it if your a fan of the show this is a great read, I might even buy it again just in case I want to read it a second time lol

Seeing this is a manga based on the anime, it's a really good one. The art style is about what you would expect with a manga like this. It doesn't follow the story line of the anime exactly and that's good. It makes buying each volume worth it. (because it adds a few more stories than the anime did)

Bones' "Space Dandy" was an anime that didn't last too long, which is too bad as it seemed to be an animated cross between "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and the kind of stuff that Adam Warren used to write and draw for Dark Horse comics. If you liked the TV series, you're going to want to check out the 2-volume manga.The first volume is the better of the two. Writer Masafumi Harada and artists Sung Woo Park and Redice did an amazing job of adapting the look and feel of the series to a manga format. It doesn't read like an adaptation, which is the highest compliment I can pay the artists. Someone somewhere made a very smart decision to avoid slavishing translating the anime scene for scene and word for word - this means that there are adventures here that aren't in the TV series and vice versa. It also means there is a more consistent tone to the manga, because almost anything that wasn't funny was ditched. (This is also a mixed blessing, because some episodes of the anime were dark, philosophical, bittersweet, and serious. I missed these aspects in the manga).While I'm not sure that the manga itself is enough to turn you into a "Dandy" fan, anyone who loved the TV series will want to get their hands on this volume.
