Modern Mending: How to minimize waste and maximize style Paperback – June 8, 2021

This book is everything I hoped for and so much more. Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald does a fantastic job. At first, I read it from start to finish, enjoying every page. Then, I've been rereading sections as I mend sweaters, jeans, cashmere scarves, winter coats, woolen blankets and more. Some mends are invisible and some visible which add to the beauty of the items. I didn't think I would use some techniques that were unfamiliar to me, but realized I could fix a great 70 year old wool blanket with needle felting. The organization is great. The instructions are clear and comprehensive. The case studies are inspiring. It's all fun, too. Other famous menders are interviewed and many resources are listed giving more perspective. And, finally, Erin has a very active Modern Mending Facebook group with real life input from menders all over the world.

This is a thorough explanation of a variety of mending and darning methods, including patching, a variety of invisible mending techniques, and darning. It also includes the tools required for all the methods, and useful real-life examples with clear pictures. The book also provides encouragement and ideas for what a person might do to repair and mend their own clothing and household linens. This is especially useful since holes often appear in awkward spots, and the author's examples show how these might be mended in creative ways. For example, I developed two tiny holes on some knit pants, right on the rear end. How embarrassing! I darned the two holes using this book as a guide, and then embroidered two tiny hearts over them. (♥️ cheeky!)

I own several books on mending, including many books that were written decades ago and a few books that were written within the past 5 years. Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald's book is my favorite "modern" book and I am so pleased that I own it!This book is chock full of color photos that show close-up "how to" details. Further, and even more important to me, Ms. Lewis-Fitzgerald includes numerous examples of mending, repairing and patching a variety of damages, wears and tears. I see this book as a mini-encyclopedia of mending.

This book is so helpful. It is inspirational and has really gotten me going on my mending, finally. Favorite jeans with gaping holes have been waiting in bags for many years to be turned into rags but now I can fix them instead and wear them again!

What a lovely book! The tutorials are easy to understand, the photos are clear and helpful, and the author has a down-to-earth sense of humor that I love.

Good for the novice. There are thinga here for the experienced, as well. I found the bits on re-knitting holes in knitwear very useful. Nearly invisible mends are possible. Im glad to see that more people are beginning to value extending the useful lives of things. Photos are great, instructions clear

Good clear pictures, well organized, “tabbed” for easy reference - lots of solid techniques in here, plus inspiration projects as well. Love it!

It covers all the techniques you'd come across when mending - various types of darning; needle felting; patches and stitches to name a few, so it's such a great go to resource! On top of that there's lots of case studies where the author talks about the mends she's done on clothes, why she did then that way with plenty of pictures throughout. At the end there's a section with other modern menders you can go check out for more inspiration, with lots of pics of their mends.There's a lot to this book, it's really comprehensive, I'm so glad I have it in my collection. I highly recommend it!

This is a wonderful book which arrived in super fast time as well as being competitively priced including p&p.Book has clear pictures and instructions for all kinds of mending - it's a keeper for me!

I bought this to brush up my skills before starting to teach visible mending classes. It was all I needed and more. I found ways of expressing, explaining and finishing a wide range of mends. Mends anyone could do having read this book. So far about half of my clients have also bought it and are exchanging ideas and tips in class. Can't recommend it enough
