A gift for an ex RN from the 50s /60s
Got this for my dad ex RN based on the comments that the already well documented and analysed periods of modern RN enagements such as Falklands, WW2 are only mentioned in brief, and the lesser documented enagements such as U boat hunting are expanded on.My dad was in the Senior Service througout the 50s and into early 60s, observing the lack of investment since then.I will update this review once hes read it...

A fun and informative read.
A really thorough review of how Britannia came to rule the waves with the sad coda of how it all fizzled out.Lot's of detail for anoraks and fascinating trivia. I particularly liked the part where he shows all the expressions in current English that come from the sea.

Thoroughly enjoyable and easy read
Even if you don't have a natural interest in the Royal Navy but a general interest in the history of England and the wider United Kingdom, this book is a must! A very exciting read for those wishing to learn more about our past and possibly hazard a guess as to where our future lies.I will be purchasing a second book to gift to a friend, the price of £4.49 does not represent the great value of knowledge and entertainment that this book provides - perfect if you're stuck at home and want a binge-worthy novel that you certainly won't put down.

Excellent
This was great, but very uneven in its coverage. Almost nothing on WW1 or WW2, the author seems to run out of energy in about 1900. But what is covers it does brilliantly.

It's the Royal Navy not the 'British' Navy!
The history of the Royal Navy is arguably the history of Britain.Very well written. Highly recommended.
