I have a soft spot in my heart for this book (I don't think I've ever rated a Stephen King book over 4 stars) because the stories ring with truth. They are simple, direct, and many are also very disturbing because of the author's ability to reveal the macabre lying in wait beneath a normal surface. Kudos to Wayne Barrett!

Strangeness proves more interesting than horror.
A collection of stories at times supernatural, other worldly, or simply horrific. I would only classify this collection as "horror" because it has enough of those elements to qualify; but they are more than that often predictable genre. These are humane stories about adolescence, parenting, loss, grief, risk, trauma, alienation, strangeness, survival, and the intimacies of relationships which change us in ways unseen. This is a theme of interest for Barrett: the unseen, not so much the undead - though they are present now and again, or at least the threat lurks in the background. This is a collection more interested in the human experience within horrible or just strange and new circumstances, pushed to our limits in impossible, unfamiliar, or unimaginable scenarios.Barrett's writing style is fresh and descriptive, often seamlessly weaving the natural, everyday world with supernatural frights, real or imagined. I was happy to find a writer who renewed my interest in horror, never fully abandoning the traditional forms of the genre but giving it an unexpected, surprisingly real bent.

This is an amazing collection of horror
Wow. Just wow. This is an amazing collection of horror, suspense, and psychological thrillers. Each one was placed perfectly in order, and left me anticipating the next. I highly recommend this book."He Turns His Back" was my favorite. Suspense, horror, that kind of story that kind creeps into your dark dreams. Don't read that one at night.Amazing writing, excellent descriptions, believable dialogue and settings that make you feel lost inside the story. Eagerly awaiting the next book from Wayne Barrett!!

BOO!
I've followed Wayne Barrett for many years. He's one of the most talented writers I know. A triple threat, he writes, he draws, AND he's a musician. All three of these impressive skills are on display in Feather and Bone, a collection of short stories that will have the hair on the back of your neck standing on end! With 14 stories, it's hard to pick a favorite, but Midnight in Jackie's Garden held me spellbound.Greatly entertaining and highly recommended!
