Dr Xargle's Book of Earth Hounds

This is such a cute book to use to teach about observations and inferences. The students loved it. I wish the shipping was a bit faster though.

I like the Book of Earth Tiggers better -- these books are ok for kids but they are marvelous for adults!!! Real treasures, and no one I know had seen them.

This book is listed as suitable for small children, who will surely enjoy the silly pictures and, if they are familiar with doggie habits, the things the dog does [rolling in cowpats, slurping a child's ice cream cone]; however, the story line will require some explanation, as its wit is beyond a preschooler. This book will also appeal to adult dog lovers with a taste for dry British humor. I would give this book confidently to dog lovers with or without children.

If you have come across the Dr Xargle books before then this is one of the best of them. If you haven't then you are missing out on a glorious panorama of misinterpretation and veiled truth. This is extremely silly and I encourage all silly people to get it. No, you're not too old!

This is a lovely book with great illustrations, the humour is for slightly older children (than toddlers) and my son (12 yrs) thought it was babish, but I thought it was lovely and explained to him that babies would not be able to understand the humour.

Another in the glorious series conjured up by Jeanne Willis with the wonderful illustrations of Tony Ross, which gives Dr Xargle's take on the relationship between humans and dogs. Anyone who has ever owned or entered a house with a dog will instantly recognise the chaos that can ensue, especially after a dog has indulged some of its more unmentionable habits. Both children and adults will enjoy this book which made me laugh out loud.

Delightful and funny book. A real treat for anyone, child or adult, who knows and loves dogs:-)
