My Caridina Taiwan Bee start up. 29 gallon tank, one 25 lb bag is all I used. Using a HOB and matten filter. Active substrate that maintains the low PH needed for my Reverse Osmosis fresh water shrimp keeping.

Effective buffering substrate and extremely easy to place plants in. Both my aquarium plants and caridina shrimp benefit from this quality substrate. One of the more economical aquasoils on the market.

Not cheap, but my caridina shrimp are doing great, so it’s worth it. Looks nice too. Lowers ph and water is crystal clear. 25lbs was enough for two standard ten gallon tanks, a smaller aqeon (6-8 gallons), a 11 gallon cube and a 12 gallon Long. So 5 tanks total. No ammonia leaching so I was able to cycle pretty quick. More brown than black, but looks great.
