NOT for 1/2 Violins -- Great for 4/4 Violins
I bought this for a 1/2 violin I am giving my brother for Christmas. It is flat-out too large. It is untrue that it works for 1/2 violins and I wish they would remove that from the name. That said, I am currently using it for my own 4/4 violin and it is amazing, especially on the A string and better than others on the E string. On the G and D strings I have another mute that makes them slightly quieter, but that A and E strings are more likely to pierce walls, so I would recommend this mute the most.I would have given this five stars if I had purchased this for my 4/4 violin, however I didn't. I purchased it under the false pretense that it would work well on a 1/2 violin which is bluntly a lie. As a 1/2 size mute, it gets 1 star, as it is an utter failure. Since I cannot submit two reviews, I have done the work of averaging my two polar experiences into a 3-star review.

Great idea, but not perfect.
Sorry, but we tried it and it wasn't the best. Nice idea, well made, and a heavy weight would make it great in the ideal case. However its rigidity is what killed it for us. Initially there was a buzz on the G string that was livable but annoying; later on the bridge warped a bit and there is no forgiveness in this design. It won't fit down far enough to actually mute the strings. So, we ended up going back to one of the plastic/rubber models that have been around forever, and the flexibility is important to making the design work.

Holy S#*%!!
I was a little unsure about this at first when I put it on my violin because the way it mounts, it only touches the bridge and not the strings. But as soon as I drew my bow across the strings to test it my mouth literally dropped open in disbelief! The amount of sound suppression that this little guy provides is simply amazing!I've only been playing for about 3 months and I'm a bit paranoid about bothering my gf while I'm practicing and constantly missing notes or scratching or any of the other various irritants that need to be overcome through practice. This little guy is PERFECT! It works so much better than the common little black rubber mute.I can't stress enough how well this thing works! And to top off its performance... It's shiney! It looks beautiful on my black Cecilio!Definitely money well spent!

Did not work as expected for my Cremona SV-150 Violin
I have a Cremona SV-150 Violin. The mute Works great when I play the E and the A strings but when I play the D and specially the G string the violin vibrates producing an awful sound. The mute is somewhat unstable over the bridge and sometimes it moves, without falling, from one side to the bridge to the other.Overall Iโm thinking of buying another mute

Nice solid product, not sure it should fit flush or not.
I'm not sure whether this is supposed to sit flush against the bridge as I've never used a mute before.I was going to file it down so it fits on the violin. It does mute it even though it's not fully on the bridge but I'm not sure this is how it's supposed to be. It did not come with instructions so I'm going on a limb here. Could someone let me know? Thanks.

Works great!
This is a great mute! At first it seemed that it didn't fit on my bridge correctly, as it didn't slide on very far, but it stays on and lowers the volume beautifully without ruining the sound! I purchased so I wouldn't a.) bother my neighbors in the apartment complex b.) be self conscious of blaring my family out of the home with my beginner screeches!

Best invention ever!!!!
I just love these violin mutes!!! ๐I'm really dedicated to learning to play the violin, but I have to practice at times when most people are sleeping because of my job. Now, I can play anywhere at any time! ๐I even use the mutes when I'm alone sometimes to protect myself from getting hearing loss. If only all instruments could be muted like this! ๐ค
