Uni Alpha-Gel Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil, 0.5 mm, Turquoise Body (M5858GG1P.71)

If you're sitting there debating whether to get this mechanical pencil or not, you better add it to your cart this instant! Trust me- it's worth every penny.This mechanical pencil is incredible for so many reasons! I'm planning to use it for school and am blown away by the high quality compared to the cheap ones.Starting off, it has a sleek look that is sure to catch a lot of envious stares. Pictures can't do it justice!The main reason I chose the Alpha Gel variant was because of the gummy-like grip. It doesn't make my hands slip at all which is great for long writing sessions.Of course, it isn't a great Kuru Toga without the turning mechanism. At first, it's a little uncomfortable since it rocks but you get used to it. I hate having to turn my pencil all the time because I lose my grip but the problem is fixed! You get uniform lines that are ideal for primarily writing but I could see this pencil working for certain artists.Yet to see much on durability, but make sure you don't lose the plastic topper/eraser. Just hold down and twist it until the topper locks in place. Will update in the future!

The grip is nice, and the mechanism that keeps the lead rotating also makes it less likely to break. Helps prevent hand cramps during long writing sessions, due to the large grip combined with the fact that it rotates the lead, keeping your pencil sharp, requiring less pressure for cleaner and darker writing.

Very comfortable to write with!

unfortunate that it only comes in one led size, most of my previous mechanical pencils have been 0.7 mm, so I don't have as much led stockpiled for it

I really like this pencil, but the lack of erasure disappointed me a bit when I need it, or how the lead breaks a lot. I wish it would hold up better. But on the flip side, the pencil is incredibly comfortable, durable in terms of not breaking small parts, and writes nicely. It is one of my prized possessionsns in my pencil pouch.

I really like the mechanical advance ("feed") of these Kuru Toga pencils. This model adds a comfortable silicone grip much like the Dr Grip and original Sumo pencils and pens. I find the grip on this Alpha Gel Kuru Toga pencil a shade softer and more comfortable than the other brands.I have two concerns about the Alpha Gel Kuru Toga pencil. 1.) like all mechanical pencils in general, the Alpha Gel Kuru Toga mechanical pencil will eventually jam on a broken pencil lead. Because of the different design of the gear advance on the Kuru Toga pencils I really suggest that the user take some time to figure out how the pencil comes apart in order to clear a jammed pencil before it happens. The Kuru Toga functions differently and it comes apart a little differently from the typical mechanical pencil and can be frustrating in an unpracticed pinch.The second concern is the tiny eraser that tops the Kuru Toga pencil. It's great for precision erasing but bad for erasing a wholesale mistake. If they could only only design in a "usable" sized eraser this might be a perfect writing instrument. I'll still score this pencil a 5* for its comfort and cool lead advance design.

Well, that's just how I feel compared to the lukewarm reviews before me. What's the use of a 7mm mechanical pencil, silly Westerners! Okay, I'm just kidding, but most of the cons that others mentioned are not of concern to me. I would never use the eraser on the pencil nor would I want a 7mm lead feed - that kind of goes against the fine writing image of these pencils. However, this pencil does differ from previous alpha gel pencils I've used in two different ways: First of all, it's not a shaker pencil like the HD shaka shaker, not that I care, but if you're into that then shoo. Secondly, the grip much firmer than the original alpha gel. If you can read the writing at the back of the package, you'll see that it composes of three layers. The actual alpha gel is between the inner and outer silicone rubber layers. As a result the grip isn't super squishy like the previous models and if you're here for that then shoo. Personally, it's a plus because I like torturing the original soft grip. The new grip does, however, get dusty more easily than the original. Also, I found that the kuru toga engine on this works better than the U.S./international version of the original kuru toga. It doesn't smear and actually seems to rotate when it needs to. If it doesn't work well for you then I would suggest you use a better lead than the crappy Pentel Hi-Polymer found in most office supply stores.

My favourite pencil ever. This is the best mechanical pencil I've used. The gel grip is comfortable and just the right size. Rotating mechanism makes it so that the tip is never dull, which helped me take really neat and consistent notes in class. It was so useful that I purchased a second pencil for myself, as well as another for a friend.

グリップが柔らかくてぷにぷにしているので指にフィットして持ちやすいです。そのおかげで力を入れることなくペンを持つことが出来るし、文字を書いても手が疲れません。太さや重さもちょうどよく、サラサラと書けます。

アルファゲルの硬さもすごく優しくいくら書いてもなかなか疲れません。クルトガで書き心地もよく個人的にはピカ一のシャーペンだと思います。書くときに力が入る方などにはすごく使いやすいかもしれません。

初めて持った時は太いかなと思いましたが、10時間くらい数学の問題を計算で書いていてもシャーペン本体のクッションのお陰で全く指が痛くならず非常に快適で驚きました。持った感じもすぐ慣れて違和感がなくなりました。シャーペン自体の色もキレイで今ではお気に入りです。
