When i first opened the kit i was overwhelmed with an incredibly powerful bleach-like odour. Some of the plastic connector housings were coated in a foggy white residue, and these seemed to have the strongest smell. I soaked all of the plastic bits in alcohol, and then washed them in soapy water just in case. That removed the residue, as well as probably 80% of the smell, but it's definitely still perceptible if you get your face right up to it. I don't know what that could be, whether it's dangerous or what. I definitely won't be putting these near my mouth, though.As far as the connectors themselves... i have no experience with other JST-SM connectors (genuine or not), so i can't really compare, but these seem to work fine.I have had some of the crimps fail (either pulling off the wire or having the little wings bend back at a weird angle), but i assume this is due to poor technique on my part rather than anything wrong with the insert things. The inserts fit into the housings just fine, though sometimes you might have to squeeze them a bit with your tool if it squished the sides out too much. They are a bit loose in the housing, but they don't back out easily, even if you're deliberately trying to remove them.The plastic housings seem fine aside from the weird residue/smell. I haven't found any obvious errors. The little latch mechanism holds the connectors together very securely, maybe even too securely -- i might experiment with filing down the tab just slightly so it doesn't require so much force to pull them apart.The inserts make a good electrical connection on their own, such that they conduct across even before the housings are latched together, but they have almost zero holding force, so you definitely need the latch to keep things together. Testing with my multimeter, the inserts have basically zero resistance, and i was not able to break continuity by wiggling them around while they're latched together.Attached: Some photos of a practice connection i made. I don't claim to be an expert at this, but it seemed OK. I used the IWISS IWS-2820M crimping tool, but i know there are other good options too.

I needed to make easily removable connected parts for my 3D printers - Fan's. I've not used this type of crimp/pin system in close to 40 years, but it was easy to remember, easy to crimp, and worked perfectly. I'm happy with the purchase and for the few connections I needed, this will last me years.

I counted all of the JST SM male/female plug, none of the sizes count for 20 pieces, all count for 15 pieces, so instead of 300 pieces I only received 240 pieces. I did not count the 2.54mm female and male pin header, so I hope they send a fair amount of them. I did not used yet, but I wanted to write this review to clarify that you are getting fewer quantity than advertised, and for that reason I take off two stars, cause I do not like false advertising. This product should be advertised as in the images I corrected. To be honest, if the quantity of the product advertised were right, I would give it 5 star.

This kit has everything you need to install JST SM connectors ... except patience. But I can't hold that against the product, these are just made for small, fidley wires.The connectors are a good assortment with plenty of each size. I think if I were to suggest any difference, it might be more of the 2 and 3 pin connectors and fewer of the larger connectors, but everyone's needs are different.The crimper is sturdy an makes a nice tight crimp on both the insulation and the wires in a single step. They crimp with the right amount of pressure. They are adjustable, but I found that they worked great out of the box.

After being burned by a different product being advertised as JST SM connectors, I found these. The do work with the cables on my ebike kit.The only issues I have with these are that the pins need to have the clamping area squeezed in before they will fit in the crimping tool, I have had this issue before with other sets, so this may be typical for the connectors. The second issue is that I needed a very narrow flat screwdriver to fully insert the pins into the housing to lock them in place, again this may be typical for the connectors.
