Reflections on Life After Life

A fair read at best in this follow-up book from his first book (Life after Life).
I have read numerous books lately on the near-death experiences and I just purchased this 149 page soft cover book (Reflections on life after life by Raymond A. Moody, Jr. M.D.) for a bargain price on Amazon.Life after Life is one of the earlier books written (published in 1976-77) about near-death experiences and this is a companion book which explores this topic a little further than his first volume. Since the author’s first book he has interviewed a large number of other people who had some of the same near-death experiences. The results of this author’s research match the work of the most well-known early pioneers in this field, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, M.D.The following topics are covered in this volume: New elements: the vision of knowledge, cities of light, a realm of bewildered spirits, supernatural rescues, judgment, suicide, reactions from the ministry, historical examples, more questions, epilogue, appendix: methodological considerations and a bibliography.Since I have read a great number of books on this topic I did not find this book compelling or enlightening; nevertheless, for those looking for one of the first books dealing with the topic of near-death experiences may find this book interesting. Rating: 3 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art and Warrior Haiku and Senryu)

My reflections on Moody's reflections.
It is interesting that this book is not on sale on Moody's web site with his other books. I had read this when it first came out and have lost my original copy so I got it on Kindle to read again. I wanted to read about persons having a near death experience that weren't all Christians. I thought I remembered some cases that I didn't find, but what I did find reinforced my thinking about life after death. Not all persons go to a beautiful heaven. Some go to a holding area where they are trying to contact their family back on earth to warn them. The book also reinforces my belief that everyone has an everlasting soul that contains all of their life experiences that goes with them when they die.

Moody Review
Having read Dr Moody's previous work, it was interesting to read his comments about his own ideas and the reactions he got from skeptics regarding NDE's etc. If you have ever discussed this kind of work with folks who are constitutionally opposed to a view of the world that doesn't see the universe or the human body as a "machine and consciousness as a product of complex machinery --then it is fun to read through his explanations of why people's perceptions of his work don't hold up. i.e. these are hallucinations of a dying brain etc. I recommend reading Larry Dossey's 1986 classic: Rediscovering the Soul: A Scientific and Spiritual Search to round out the ideas that some physicists have developed around nonlocal mind. Fascinating and has a succinct explanation of oneness , by Lama Govinda, which talks about the relationship between part and the whole, and to me, opens a window to what people who have experienced NDE's are trying to communicate.."[Our essential oneness with the universe] is not sameness or unqualified identity, but an organic relationship, in which differentiation and uniqueness of function are as important as that ultimate or basic unity...Individuality and universality are not mutually exclusive vlaues, but two sides of the same reality, compensating, fulfiliing and complementing each other, and becoming on in the experience of enlightenment. This experience does not dissolve the mind into an amophouse ALL, but rather brings the realization that the individual itself contains the totality focalized in its very core.hmmm probably just relating to my own current modes of thought on this topic, as I have been reading several different science/spirirtuality books-- including Brian Hines Gods Whisper, Creations Thunder, which explains why mystic science is a exacting and valid, if not more so, that physical science.

Not a good follow-up to the original 1975 book.
In the original book the NDEs were fascinating and the discussion seemed more like that of a researcher, but this book was a few added odds and ends that I imagine didn't fit into the original and so not wanting to not use them they arrived in this book. (148 pages) The Kindle edition was overpriced for what it offered.

Interesting but not enough
I liked this book but would have liked more case histories which seemed to dwindle about half way through. I purchased it for additional information on the experiences of individuals and their similarities while reading "Proof of Life." This is a "sequel" to Moody's original book which I have not read.

It was a very difficult read. GOing back and forth from life to death and then back to life again.. it was suppose to suggest that if you could live your life over how would you change...that got lost in the book. Too confusing

The interviews were interesting, but also a lot of fluff of no interest to anyone who is not going into the business of being a Near Death Experience researcher. Also, why on earth include yet another printing of Plato's famous Parable of the Cave, which is available in any survey of Plato's works or histories of philosophy. Most of us have read it already, and, if not, just go to your local library.

Reflections on life after life
More discussion of near death experiences. Not as riveting as the original Life After Life. Recommended for anyone interested in the phenomena of coming back from the other side.

Not as good as his other book .
Not as good as his book " Glimpses of Eternity" which is better by FAR . In fact only the beginning of the book is interesting with a couple of NDE stories . The rest of the book goes on and on about giving reasons why NDE`s are real and it is just so boring . I had spiritual experiences and KNOW - what is the point trying to convince someone who does not WANT to believe ? People who don`t want to believe wouldn`t read this kind of book anyway - or if they did - would not be convinced by ANY argument ( and find a counter argument ) . The only reason I din`t give it just 1 star is because there is an intersting NDE story at the beginning ........ after that you can shut the book.

Life after Life
This is an amazing book by Dr Raymond Moody. It provides comfort and hope to us all contemplating death or the death of a loved one. I believe in life after death. There are many dimensions .

Disappointing
Interesting discussion about near death experiences, but it would have been much better to have read his previous book "Life After Life" before reading this one which is really a discussion about the findings in the first book.

Reflections
Objective account of these phenomena which the atheists / agnostics would do well to heed. Each can draw his own conclusions or bury his head in the sand, remaining wilfully ignorant...

As all his books it was hard to put down.
I love Dr Raymond Moody s books, and find them informative and fascinating at the same time. I eagerly await his next one.
