Devonté Hynes was recommended to me by a good friend
Devonté Hynes was recommended to me by a good friend, a few years ago, and Hynes' music instantly caught my attention, especially with the release of 'Cupid,' as his Blood Orange. I've been been waiting patiently for his follow up, but the wait was definitely worth it. As an avid music listener, it's always a plus when an artist can either; song write, produce, compose, mix, engineer, etc - and Hynes does it all, and very well. After the release of Hynes' 'Cupid,' I learned that he's a very hands on artist and what appears to also be a great performer live, (I will see him live in concert one day :-D ) which also adds to how creative and conceptual this album truly is. When you receive the album, you'll notice that Hynes took time putting though into how the cover, and inside Liner notes as well as how well the album sounds sonically. Not to give too much information away, especially for newer or very avid fans, but if i'm not incorrect, Hynes wrote all but one song, of which I believe he was still apart as a cowriter. Hynes also plays several instruments, of which are an array of very unique, yet vital selections.I still have a lot of listening to do, but from every listen, i'm understanding the overall concept, and yes, Hynes has a knack to stick to a concept throughout his past few releases under the name Blood Orange. This album has a special sound to it, which I can't yet describe. It has a feel of Black/minority power to it, as well as awareness to how we treat our woman and they're important to the world and our lives. Of course, these are my personal opinions, but after a solid of album spins, i'm beginning to soak in the overall message and decode the lyrics and arrangement. I suggest listening to this album in it's entirety. Of course it's fine to skip around and randomize, but to fully soak in the album, i'd suggest playing the album in it's in entry and I almost guarantee that'll grow on you.Overall, the content, song writing, themes, instrument selection, arrangement, etc all lead to a solid sonically constructed album, of which is now my favorite overall body of work by Hynes to date. I'm hoping to see him live before his next album release. 5/5 rating. I'd highly recommend the purchase.

I love this - challenging, varied, mellifluous; this is a talented musician. Love Augustin, Best to You, Hadron Collider, EVP -- it's a keeper!

Free Your Mind and Buy FREETOWN SOUND
Freetown Sound is a masterpiece. This is Dev Hynes's follow up album to his sophomore epic Cupid Deluxe. I was expecting chill electronic jam band sounds and good vibes from Freetown Sound, but I got more then that. There are duets and collaborations with tons of artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Zuri Marley, Debbie Harry, and Nelly Furtado. I believe Grimes is even in one track. Dev took this album to the max and you can hear that in every song. Freetown Sound makes bold statements with music and lyrics. He wasn't afraid to put his mind, body and soul into this record. If you enjoyed the two albums before this one, then you will enjoy Freetown Sound. 10/10 for me.P.S. The album came on time, but was slightly damaged. The actual vinyl plays perfectly so I did not return it. The damage was all cosmetic from shipping.

Ganz tolle Musik
