Broke in half a year & customer service is TERRIBLE
I purchased the Pridiom PGD800HCW Dehumidifier (which is just like this one but a 96 Pint capacity) online.I've been told via Pridiom service department that shipping a dehumidifier is risky, because the coils can crack from shipping. Unfortunately, no local stores carry a portable, large capacity dehumidifier. And even so, shipping would be involved in getting the product to the store. The first problem we noticed right after starting to use our Pridiom dehumidifier. It supposedly can dehumidify down to 40%, but we never saw ours reach 50%. We thought maybe it was our house, and we wished we had purchased the more expensive whole-house dehumidifier that gets connected into the air conditioning ducts. But we wanted the portability of the Pridiom unit.It died after about 6 months use! The coils began to ice over during use, but we didn't see it until the ice melted and overflowed the drain pan onto our laminate floor, which caused water damage to the floor.I contacted Pridiom Service Department, which turns out to be one man, named Alan, in New Jersey. He told us to box the unit up for shipping, but we didn't save the original carton and had nothing large enough to ship it in. Alan told us that after we boxed it up, send him an email, and he would then contact UPS to pick it up. He said that two days after he contacted UPS they'd be at my house to get it. Then, after he could get to it, he'd fix it and contact UPS and two days after that they would pick it up and ship it back to me.Alan was rude and unpleasant to converse with.I found a local A/C repair shop that works on Pridiom Air Conditioners. They said they'd try to fix it. After coming to the house to look at it, they took it to the shop to do further testing. Then they called Alan and were told they have to box it up, email him, two days later UPS would come, and so forth. That was 2 months ago! The repair shop is still waiting for Alan to ship it back to them so they can drive it over to my house. Could Alan save a little time by shipping back directly to me? No!My advice to everyone thinking of buying this product: Spend the money on a whole-house dehumidifier installed into the A/C ducts.
