A scientifically-backed discourse on personality-based skill development. Great read
There is so much information in this book that is both practical and immediately usable. As a fellow psychologist I can attest to the fact that Achieve is written in a factual and scientifically support way. It's basically a mini-course of finding who you are and achieving results that fall in line with your values. This book provides a framework for leveraging your strengths while expanding on your weaknesses. Written in an conversational style while still citing numerous studies, Achieve provides readers with exercises, questions and all the information they need to make better decisions in their life and business.Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get a more scientific understanding of themselves.

This book will make it happen for you.
Me and the author shares similar, better yet, precisely the same views when it comes to finding a life with purpose and meaning. In a world where Many people lead lives of quiet desperation. A book like this can help people create their dream life through self awareness, strength identification, and creating a solid plan going forward. What separates this book from the crowded field of self help is the fact that the book is filled with research based frameworks as opposed to the author's opinion alone. He's able to break down complex psychological principles and break them down in a way that's easy for anyone to understand.Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a copy. In fact, buy 10 and share them with your closest friends and family. It's that good!

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON GOAL SETTING
Dr Friesen explains goal setting from a completely different perspective compared to the "standard" types of goal oriented books that are on the market. He goes deeply into what are called the 5 Personality Tendancies (something I'd never come across before), and explains how understanding your personality, values, and purpose are crucial in setting goals that are not just high & lofty dreams. He encourages the reader to take stock of who they truly are in all of those areas so that they can shape goals that are in line with their true self.Dr Friesen cites a host of scientific and psychological information to back up his methodologies and he includes real case studies to show how they work in real life. He then explains step by step, how to craft and execute your goals using his methodology.I will definitely be revisiting my own goals in the light of some of the new information uncovered in this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about actually setting and achieving important goals in their life.

Amazing book!! A Must Read if You Want to Learn More about Yourself (and Others)!
This is a great book for anyone trying to understand themselves a little (or a lot) better, whether looking to make a big career change, a small change, or just understand yourself and your friends and family a little better. Dr. Friesen walks us through the 5 dimensions of our personality, each of which are separate and distinct. The interplay between where you fall in each dimension defines your personality. Unlike most self help books that look to put you in a box, which never quite gets you "right," this matrix is spot on (at least it was for me) and eye-opening. Dr. Friesen also asks some questions to help us identify our true values. If you truly open up yourself when going through these exercises, you may learn something about yourself that enables you to actually achieve! I had trouble putting the book down as I was reading it because with each page and new exercise, I think I learned a little more about myself. I highly recommend this book. In fact, of all books of this type that I've read (or experienced in professional development experiences), this one is the BEST. Thank you Dr. Friesen, I look forward to the next book in your series!

I love how the author brings in your unique personality and ...
I have gained so much from reading books on self improvement and personal growth over the years and I found this one to be top notch. I love how the author brings in your unique personality and tendencies while giving you actionable ways to implement the suggestions. This makes so much more sense than the cookie cutter approach similar books take to reaching your goals. If you are interested in improving your life and reaching the goals you've set for yourself, you will definitely benefit from this book!

Love it!
Love it! Really well written, and by someone who is clearly an expert in psychology, personality and achievement. The author goes into the five basic personality tendencies - Susceptibility to Negative Emotions & Stress, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Openness to Change, Motivation. He then shows what the pros and cons are of being either high or low on the scale for each one and what it all means for you when it comes to achieving what you want. Can't wait to read the rest of the series he has planned!

Wish I read this book sooner!
What I really liked about Chris Friesen's book, Achieve, is how clearly he breaks down the benefit of understanding both your strengths and weaknesses. I'm not interested in reading books that only focus on the positive and sweep the negative parts under the carpet. Mr. Friesen doesn't do that. He not only shows you how to embrace all you, he explains how to determine your career based on where you fall within the 5 Basic Personality Tendencies. That's why I wish I had read this book during college. It would have saved me from burning out six years after I graduated. When I finished reading Achieve, I finally understood what happened to me back then, and I also realized how it could have been prevented. Not with a quick fix, but with a deeper understanding of who I was, what I valued and what I brought to the table prior to getting myself tangled in something that didn't fit.I highly recommend this book for everyone from seniors in high school to senior executives.

Clear easy to use and packed full of evidence based approaches to success
This is a great addition to the coaching literature for coaches and clients alike. The author skilfully uses evidence without making it academic to outline clear processes for success using a wide range of psychological theory. I was really impressed with the work on basic personality types and also the goal planning sections. Very clear and very useful and I will be recommending it to clients as well as using it myself.

You have to do all excercises
This books is taking me long to finish, because I stop and do every single excercise is suggested. You actually have to take the proper time with no distractions and do each of the guided tests to understand who are you.You will realise, you know the answer, but you haven't dedicated time to think about it.The only thing I dislike about is that the author always remind you, that you have to buy the upcoming books.I highly recommend the book for those who feel lost, just like I did.

Can't wait for the next book on his series!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. The author has a real no nonsense style, there's no fluff just solid, factual, honest to goodness help.If I'm really honest, I didn't think I'd learn anything new as I've read heaps on goal setting, success and achievement already - but this delivered so many new insights, some of which blew me away. I have NEVER thought of using my personality traits to stack the odds in my favor and help me achieve.Gold!

Amazing book and an incredible resource!!
Amazing book and an incredible resource!!I was completely impressed reading this book. As a psychologist, I read many self-help manuals and numerous research articles.'Achieve' stands out as one of the more refreshing and engaging books I've read in a long time. One of the things I liked most about this book was the philosophy that success (in all areas of our lives) depends on our ability to understand, accept, and integrate all aspects of our personality. Often we reject the parts of ourselves that we deem "unsuccessful"; however, Dr. Freisen demonstrates that success is born out of the ability to leverage our strengths WHILE working with the more challenging aspects of our personalities. The book is full of exercises, analogies, and skills that help the reader better understand themselves, learn more about what really interests them, and tips on how to use that knowledge to move forward. Dr. Friesen uses his own personal story, top research findings, and the experiences of his clients to provide a road map for motivation and success. This book is well written, concise, and completely engaging. I am going to be recommending this book to my clients and my friends. I'll be watching for the next in the series. Well done!
