This large stoneware serving bowl is about 10.5" in diameter and 2.5" high. The beautiful texture was created by pressing a lace doily into the slab of clay before forming the bowl. It is another of my 2 lace doily bowls. I made it by pressing a different doily into both sides of the slab. Then curling up the edges. Pictures 2, 3 & 4 show the details of the lace and glaze texture found on the inside of the bowl. I included red, blue, brown and gold glazes, then wiped the surface to expose the lace texture. Using doilies on both sides of a piece enables me to glaze the bottom of the bowl and wipe the surface so I can high fire it, without it sticking to the kiln shelf. (see picture 5) This creates a beautiful texture. You can clearly see the shape and design of the doily on the bottom of the bowl. This bowl is food safe but I would wash it by hand.
