These Shabby Chic Chalk Style Finish Paints are specifically created with a variety of surfaces in mind to create a silky soft, matte finish for a vintage look. Use Chalk Style Finish Paint as a wash, as regular smooth paint, or apply thickly to create texture. Paint on both unfinished and painted wood, metal, and even fabric. Remove any hardware and clean the surface to remove any dirt, oil, or grease before painting. Dry with a clean towel. For metal, lightly rub steel wool over the surface first to remove dust, dirt, and flakes. Shake paint vigorously for 1-2 minutes to blend the minerals and pigments and open the container. If paint seems too thick, mix with a craft stick. Dip your brush into the paint and apply a light coat to your piece. For an even and smooth first coat, you may dilute the paint with some water (by 10%). Your base coat should be neat, smooth, and achieve total coverage. As the paint dries, the color will become much lighter than when it's wet. Shabby Chic Chalk Style Finish Paint dries very quickly; if a second coat is needed, you can start as soon as the first coat is dry, but if you have time, allow paint to thoroughly dry and cure between coats (2-4 hours).
