We have used these for years while I was in Okinawa. They are heavier than most cutting boards but this is what you need if you are using high end expensive knifes. It has a rubber like shell covering a hard board and is gentle on the knife's cutting edge.

Got this as a gift from my son for Xmas. We all love the board. A bit heavy but very sturdy, no slip on the granite counter, a nice shape for cutting and keeping different veggies on different parts of the board without getting too crowded. The best part is the board is not harsh for our Japanese knifes, yet allows the cutting to be very precise and efficient.

I first saw these cutting boards at my favorite sushi restaurant and thought, "if they're being used by my sushi chef to prepare expensive, raw bluefin tuna with a knife that cost more than some cars... that board must be safe for knives, long-lasting and easy to sanitize" -- it's all those things and more! I have two of them now and love them more and more as time goes on. On top of all that, they're heavy, don't slide around and can be sanded down for extended life as they get a bit worn. LOVE THESE!
