This writing team have spotted a gap in the market - playable piano music for the adult improver. Enough here to make you think but sight playable at first attempt (and a recorded track so you know what you’re aiming for). A definite recommendation.

Bought this for my 18 year old son ( and myself ) . The music is not too difficult to sight read with beautiful chords and melodies and so enjoyable to play . A lovely musical mixture .

Lovely pieces

I don’t often write reviews unless something impresses me enough to do so! I must say this book has some really nice pieces in. I love the composer tips at the start of each piece which gives an insight of things to watch out for, very helpful. Favourite piece for me is Lyra’s Lament which has a gorgeous melody line. Look forward to getting to the pieces towards the back which look a little challenging for me!

This book makes you want to play again and again. Lovely melodies and chords. Hour upon hour of enjoyment. Many thanks.

All the pieces in here were of a ‘type’, what I would class as musical wallpaper. Nothing in here to challenge or excite. Publication is also cheap and thin.

There are some nice melodies. But in terms of standard i think a solid Grade 3 or 4 pianist should be able work through from cover to cover. So not challenging music but quite nice for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

This is a beautifully presented book, with 8 wonderful pieces carefully crafted and aimed at all players albeit with a keen eye on those working through from grade 3 to 5. Each piece benefits from a brief playing guide by either Janette or James. What a fantastic composing combination. I have been fortunate to see Janette and James play live and hear their work on BBC sounds and Jazz FM. In summary, a wonderfully appointed set of compositions, sympathetically prepared by two fine and talented musicians that will challenge and inspire.

I love these works. They are contemporary, melodic, and will inspire my students. I like that they are similar to artists like Phillip Glass, Max Richter without being overly repetitive, so it offers way more than 1 repeated idiom and take the performer in different directions and are not overly long. I hope a book at a grade 7-8 level comes out, as I am sure my students will appreciate these songs.
