A wee beastie of a synth
I have a room full of synths I’ve collected over the years and plenty I have let go over that time too. I was initially dismissive of IK MM, but recently watched a few YouTube reviews of this wee synth and through it was worth a punt given the crazy cheap deal. Sure the micro USB is annoying, but its not worth losing sleep or a star over. This wee beastie is quite amazing. The low end is outstanding and the flexibility of the Arp, Sequencer and paraphonic modes are really impressive. Outstanding value for money and definitely a keeper.

Some great sound, some questionable build
Short version: plug it in, select preset 36 and by the time your third finger comes down you won’t regret your purchase.Longer version: to confirm, this is regarding the desktop version and not the full size version. In theory things are mostly the same between them but I can’t be 100% on that.First impressions are pretty good in that this is a very compact synth, about the width of a laptop and very light so definitely portable (no battery power though). Despite the small size it’s good to see things like full size midi and jack sockets. Despite the lightness the plastic feels a good thickness with no creaking or worry that it will break in your bag.You can get set up and zipping through the presets in no time which give a good idea of the range of possible sounds. Ultimately this synth is capable of some great sounds. Things aren’t nicely arranged by genre like some Korgs so it can be a bit of a random journey. Word of warning if you do this with headphones though - the volume varies massively between patches and some can be painfully loud.Once you’ve got past the presets there’s a surprising amount of depth for shaping your own sounds. This is very not a one button per function type synth and the constant diving in and out of modes and traversing the matrix can get tiresome. I would strongly suggest watching some hands on tutorials to see if this is going to be the synth for you. You can get much easier control wiring it up to your computer and using the editor, but that does kind of ruin the portability or option to work purely in hardware. A lack of an equivalent iPad app seems a missed opportunity. The actual keyboard works surprisingly well for a bit of noodling, as long as you’re not too fat fingered. It is however completely flat with no form of pressure sensitivity, so don’t expect any Arturia style cleverness here.On a general note regarding build, some of the buttons and interface can feel a bit cheap. The buttons are a tad mushy and the backlighting is very uneven. The (admittedly tiny) screen is crisp and surprisingly readable. The power and computer connections use micro usb. In the world of usb these are probably the worst plugs available and feel especially vulnerable here, especially on a unit that feels it is due to be used on the road. Finally on build my unit is a little twisted and so doesn’t sit flat. It’s only really noticeable when hitting the far end of the keyboard and having it rock. Oddly I saw a YouTube review where they had the same problem and assumed they had a wonky table. Either I have an equally wonky desk or it’s a far reaching build problem.Electronics wise the only real gripe is the headphone output. Mine is very noisy (as in static) and does odd things like completely clean up at certain volume settings (typically around 60%). I also found a couple of patches that totally ignored the volume setting and just output max volume. Again, kind of takes the shine of a portable unit for noodling in a hotel room. These units recently got a massive price reduction. Taking everything into account I think the new price makes it a fair purchase. I think I’d have given one star less (and felt a bit deflated) if I’d paid full whack.

Great synth apart from terrible USB power supply
This is a great sounding synth at a good price. Easy to use, well-designed, good sounds, built in good quality effects. Let down by micro usb power connection. I don't know if I got a dodgy one but it is very fussy about the USB power. It wouldn't run off my pc USB power and while it would boot up off other phone chargers it was woefully out of tune. It would run off a proper Apple phone charger and self calibrate and play in tune but if the usb lead was knocked it went out of tune again. I have returned it for a refund.

Great Sound, bad case design and awful micro USB for power....
No issue with the sound, it sounds great....but the case is a mess, you cant read the text (red on black!) and the 'micro' USB power cable just popped out on me sever times making it too unreliable to use. Noisy when powered from a PC as well (ground loop) so better to use the second USB power only, this should have been a proper push fit PSU connection not a micro USB connection. No PSU included, you have to use your own supply and it has to be micro USB.

Great sounding synth
The synth sounds fantastic and is easy to program. It looks great too. My only gripe is that they have made the same mistake that Roland made with their JD-Xi synth, and that’s the use of grey lettering on a gloss black finish that makes the text hard to read in low light conditions. But that’s the only thing that is wrong. It’s an awesome synth and a bargain.

Awesome synth
This is an awesome synth, with a beautiful keyboard, and easy to use programming. There is also some good software to add more presets, and have an even easier programming method.

UNO? - more like ZERO
Amazon have emailed me to ask what I thought of IK Multimedia’s UNO Synth Pro: given that it didn’t work and I returned it immediately for a full refund, you’d think they might have guessed. Apart from the fact it was faulty the build quality seemed pretty poor and I have not even considered ordering a replacement. UNO Pro? - UNO no.

Great desktop mono analog synth
Very thick sound. Great for lead and bass parts. Sequencer and arp are great as well.Don't let the size fool you!

Great Sounds and Easy To Understand
The media could not be loaded. I am a guitar player who has been interested in synths for awhile. I have various software synths in my DAW including Arturia's Pigments, but I wanted a hardware synth. I had purchased the UNO Drum a few months ago and liked what they were doing and how easy it was for a non-drummer to actually get some decent beats out of it. I looked at a bunch of synths and it came down to the Microfreak, Skulpt and UNO Pro. The Pro made the most sense to me, a non-synth player and the sounds are great. I'm not sure about the big debate over analog vs. digital synths, but the analog side would say that I made the best choice.

Ruidoso, ruidoso, ruidoso
