I felt like I have to advocate the book…
First of all, I need to mention that’s the first time I am writing a review on the book. After coming across the bad reviews, I felt an urge to share my opinion. With all due respect to the previous reviewers, I have to say, that it seemed to me, most of them just leafed through the book without reading it.I have an extensive library of sewing and Patternmaking books. It’s hard to surprise me with anything. I think this little book is still worth buying. Here is why.1. The book does not teach you how to make a basic block. The basic blocks are provided in the book.2. I like the idea of making Secondary blocks, I’ve never come across with it before. Basically, a pattern maker makes several secondary blocks that are used specifically for knits, strapless evening wear, and etc. The author shows you how to transform a basic dress or a trouser block into stretch ones.3. I found helpful a paragraph on seam allowances. These should be different in size depending on the area of the garment and seam type.4. A note on calculating the tolerance (British for ‘ease’). Usually, we are told just to add ease, not to calculate it. I think it’s more accurate this way.5. Tightened armhole block, tightened neckline block, contoured block. Have you heard of these? Probably not. You’ll learn about them from the book.6. The book DOES provide information on how to make evening wear. The author shares information on drafting special occasion dresses, a coat, and details on sleeves, frills, variety of skirts and trousers.7. A slash and spread, and pivoting methods are covered. Pivoting a curved dart? Here you go!8. A few pages on a draping technique. The list goes on…There are more comprehensive books on pattern making out there, but I think it was not intended to join the group. It has a wealth of tips and tricks on a specific ‘subject’ of Patternmaking. A lot of things, if not all of them, that are covered in this book can be applied to daywear Patternmaking.I would personally thank the author for sharing her knowledge with me.

This book did not have anything to do with special occasion clothing.
Worst sewing book I’ve ever purchased. The title of this book is misleading. Very disappointing
