Bowie: Loving The Alien Paperback – August 22, 1998

Each and every one of the Butch Karp novels is exceptional. Thrilling and full of suspense with lots of great characters.

As with a lot of the unauthorized autobiographies, I'm not sure how much of it is gossip vs. actually true. Taking into account that every story has many sides, it's definitely thoroughly researched. Sandford does seem to take a lot of pains in getting it right (or as right as he can from the sources he's got). It's also got an extremely complicated and notoriously difficult subject (as well as often contradictory), so I do give Sandford a lot of credit for trying to pull back the curtain a bit, and that's mainly the reason I'm giving this 4 stars. It's one of the few books I've seen that doesn't rely so heavily on Angie as its source material, which also gives it a better boost in credibility. The only other bit of a downer is that the writing style does tend to jump around a lot, which is slightly annoying. All of that being said, it's one of the better biographies out there, and if you're a Bowie fan, it is a good read. As for how much of it you believe or want to believe, that's up to you.

Not the best book in the Karp/Chiampi series. It seems like Tanenbaum grasping at straws for a decent story. I almost put it down before I had finished reading it. I hope the balance of the series is not like this or I will move on to something else.

What can one say? Butch and Marlene once again save the day!!!

Tanenbaum's Butch Karp series books are great, even after he actually started to write them.

A good overview of aspects of David Bowie's career. Clearly written and informative. For anyone interested in Bowie, this is a book worth considering.
