Perfect for Watercolor and Inktense!
I got this board so that I can work on more than one painting at a time. My other board is one of those with a handle and clips, but it is also quite heavy, so I thought this might be a good fit. It's perfect! My medium is Inktense and I'm not shy about using water, so there's always a risk of warping the board. Not with this one. I've done two pictures using it and it's exactly what I needed. Also, watercolor tape (not the kind that needs to be wetted, the sticking kind) sticks well to this. I use thick watercolor paper, so I don't stretch it, but rather tape it all the way around the edges to the board. Even when I've really wetted the paper with a series of washes, the tape sticks to the board and the board takes the water. It's also considerably lighter than my other board.

This is the Hardboard Panel You Really Need
When one usually thinks about a hardboard panel such as the one I purchased, one considers a nearly two-dimensional plane of compressed wood particles, but this product is so much more.Even going beyond the fact it is three-dimensional with a thickness, this panel exceeds every expectation one would have for a piece of wood. It has a smooth side, and then the other side is lightly textured! Perfect for allowing Gorilla Tape to adhere without loosing its grip!I am reminded of the famous words of this country's 19th President, Rutherford B. Hayes, who said, "An amazing invention - but who would ever want to use one?" This august, former leader was, of course referring to the telephone, but his sentiment is clearly applicable to a piece of manufacture wood-substitute made of compressed cellulose. And to President Hayes' query, I rise up to say, "I wood."(By the way, my panel arrived in a badly damaged shipping box, but this brave little hardboard panel came out unscathed and now serves me well.)

Great Hardboard Panel!
The hardboard panel is sturdy and will withstand watercolor painting. I will be using it to stretch my watercolor paper on, and I will use it thereafter as the background to complete my picture on. You won't regret your purchase!!

ok, but not what I expected
One corner was damaged due to poor shipment in a big box and no bubble wrap or anything. It's closer to a hard cardboard than a composite pulped wood sheet.Got this to replace the center panel on a cabinet frame that I salvaged. Works ok for now, but I'll be swapping to a 1/4" oak panel eventually. It absorbs satain/poly quite easily, but more like a sponge, sucks it in. Doesn't look good, so I flipped it over an put down some contact wood grain paper and stained that. That worked great, though it also is so papery that it does not take contact paper. Maybe paint first if you go that route, then contact to give it something to stick to... or use external glue source.

Not really what was expected
This board serves its purpose as a board to tack paper to on my easel, but it is surprisingly flexible. From he description I expected something more rigid, but this bends under its own weight into a curve.

Not much good for holding while you sketch
Basically cardboard. I assumed it would be sturdier, but was shocked at how much the 14"x18" bows if not laying on a hard surface. Not much good for holding while you sketch.

for watercolour, makes stretching good paper easy; I have a few now for each painting
Far more reliable (imo) and frugal compared to buying the arches watercolour blocks. I use regular masking tape after applying a wet wash to the trimmed paper, and dry naturally (no heat), and have come out with some great paintings with this board. Very happy! I might use them to mount a painting, too (with the glue stuff, not tape, of course). Easy to store flat on shelves; lovely! ♥️

Banged-up board
Definitely large enough to hold my watercolor paper (which comes as 22x30". Board is 24x36"). However, if I wasn't using this to simply stretch and hold my paintings in place as I worked, I would be a bit more disappointed. I am a flexible person and can make do with what is given to me. But I am also truthful. This board is rather flimsy, unlike other hardboard panels I have purchased in the past. It also had several greasy, very noticeable fingerprints on one end. Part of one edge had been squished, and a corner of the board had been partially chipped off.Again, I can make do with this, because it's going to be covered up 99% of the time with taped-on watercolor paper. I don't believe the price should have been so high for a banged-up board, but hey, at least I have it and can begin working on some larger pieces now.
