PortmeirionBotanic Garden - 9oz Breakfast Mug - Set of 6,6 Count (Pack of 1)

Many years ago I bought six of these Portmeirion Botanic Garden mugs. We broke one or two, and we liked the mugs so much that we were keen to replace them. HOWEVER, the flower patterns were the same, but the shape of the mugs had been changed. They were much taller and they had nasty THIN handles. I really disliked them. Then SUDDENLY recently I found that the old- style ones were available again. We have been VERY pleased to get six new ones of the old style, with nice sturdy handles and very pleasant and comfortable to use.

My wife was given four mugs by her parents a long time ago. After one was broken, we decided to keep one in service and store the other two to reduce the chance of further accidental damage. We didn't want to pay £20 per mug so I did a search and we liked the look of the Portmeirion mugs. I ordered the set of six and thanks to Amazon Prime they arrived the next day.Once I had managed to remove all the bubble wrap, the first thing I noticed was that they were not as white as they appear in the photo. Also, the colours are not quite as vibrant. It is a subtle difference but if you want that almost blue-white china look, maybe the Portmeirion mugs are not for you. I have attached a photo of a single mug and if you compare that to the photo in the advert, the colours in mine look 'weaker'.I like tall, thin mugs and I find the Portmeirions slightly wider than my ideal preference. I have attached a photo so show how the height of the mug compares to my preferred size (the mug on the right is the Portmeirion). Unfortunately, the camera couldn't really pick up on subtle difference in whites. In case this you are interested in the dimensions, here they are:Height : 94mm (3.7in)Diameter at top : 83mm (3.27in)Diameter at base: 76mm (3in)Width of lip at top : 8mm (0.32in)Each mug weighs 276g (9.7oz) when emptyOverall, these are nice sturdy mugs with a good sized handle for those of us with big fingers. I don't know enough about mugs or china to comment on value for money. If you like the dimensions then you should like these.

Ive had a set of Portmeirion mugs for many years and needed to replace ones broken over time and this set matches perfectly. Very pleased.
