Elder Race

Excellent story
Not Star Wars or anything dramatic and exciting but a tale to draw you in and keep you reading. I enjoyed the narrative between the Wizard and the "native" as science, sufficiently advanced, is magic. I have read other books by Adrian and have continued to be surprised at the range of stories he crafts. This is no exception. Recommended as an engaging vision of a possible future.

Nice story of mutual misunderstanding
This was no space opera, but a tale from two view points. One view from an observer from an advanced scientificspace faring society, and another view from a primitive society that sees science as magic. The observer is constrained to watch but not help. They talk but continually misunderstand each other. The advanced society disables emotions but they leak out and they work together

Pure Magic!
A joyous fusion of sf and fantasy, whose leading characters you root for, laugh at and ultimately love ... and re-read!

Not bad, it would make a good movie
It's pretty obvious what's going on, a nice easy read from a good sci-fi author. Done properly it would make a good movie. If you're looking for a top notch sci-fi story check out Children of Time.

Not one of the Greats, but an enjoyable read.
Pleasant read, which I picked up in-between reading a trilogy - just to take a break. If you don't expect too much from it, you should enjoy it.

9.2/10
I started out thinking this might be the best sci-fi I had ever read and it continued to be excellent throughout. The conflict between two world views inherent to the story reflects a fundamental truth that our reality is always, and can only ever be, subjective. Elder Race also talks of the arrogance of power, how we deal with emotions and idealism. However weβre instructed or trained, in the end itβs up to us each to choose the best course in the circumstances we find ourselves in. This was my first introduction to Tchaikovskys work but I look forward to more.

Excellent premise
This book is the first I have read of this author.I found it funny and engaging. The twist of the story comes in the second chapter and plays out through the book. This book is fantasy meets sci--fi.Easy and light read..Interesting charactersSwift ending.

A fairly good story-line, but ultimately left me unsatisfied
I found myself liking this story. I am a fan of the authors anyway, so it came as no surprise to me that I found it very easy to read. I enjoyed the telling of the tale from two entirely different perceptions of the same reality and events - that was a nice device. My disappointment, I think, was probably something I could have predicted the moment I unwrapped the parcel containing the book......It was too thin! I was expecting a novel, not a novella. I feel the tale could easily have supported a longer telling, with more character development. I am certain the authors would credibly explain why the story has been presented as a short one. I would actually understand some of the reasons myself - but that doesn't change the way I feel about it. I expected more from it; I wanted more from it; in fact I needed more from it. Overall I was left feeling a bit short-changed.
