It’s like a whole series in one seamless beautiful book.
First off I’m no comic snob or super fan. I just used to collect comics about 15+ years ago and wanted more story than what these great new movies are offering. I’ve searched for individual comics and series but these books are the way to go! It’s beautiful and seamless til the end. This story is bitchin... definitely going to buy more of these. If u have gotten this far as to reading the reviews then ur obviously looking for something up a certain alley and this is that alley. Magneto magneto magneto and shit loads of x men

the BEST x-men comic
This is so far the best rendering of re-coloring of the X-MEN book. This is a must have. I am also a fan of the old color but this is far more compelling.

Not perfect, but a fun trip back to the era of '90s X-Men
It's hard to imagine a better team working on an X-Men series than artist Jim Lee and writer Chris Claremont. Lee was recently discovered at the time, but he obviously had an uncanny ability to draw sharp, detailed images that totally grabbed your attention, as he does here. Claremont was a longtime writer of X-Men books, and had pretty much written all of their best stories throughout the '70s and '80s, and introduced us to many classic characters. This new series, simply titled "X-Men," was released in 1991 - about one year before the animated TV series premiered on Fox. X-Men #1 became the best selling comic book of all time, which may have lead to the TV series to go into production, and the TV series certainly helped sell a lot of comics and toys. Anyway, this trade paperback features the first seven issues of "X-Men," and it now features enhanced artwork. It's still Jim Lee's art, but some of the coloring has been adjusted to make it look sharper and more bold. It looks nice, but I would just as soon leave the art as it was so that it can take us back to when we read these books as kids. Obviously this book has plenty of great images to look at, but what about the story? Well, Claremont had always done a great job in the past, but here the story gets a little stiff. There's a lot of lengthy text involving political and military mumbo jumbo, and it lacked some of the emotion and character drama that Claremont had done so well in the past. However, here we are introduced to Omega Red, a fun villain who is rumored to make it into an X-Men movie one day. Jim Lee stayed on as artist only for another two issues, so I wish they had included those books in this collection. It's not the best X-Men story out there, but the artwork makes it a "must have" for fans, and it will take you back to a time when these characters left a huge mark on pop culture.

Great quality, perfect nostalgia
Full disclosure: this 5-star rating is given mostly by 13yr old me....but old man me loves it too. The art is clear & as awesome as ever; the colors are great; and for me the first few issues in this volume are the foundation for everything that is to follow (incl. the movies.)

Love it! I grew up watching X-Men
Love it! I grew up watching X-Men: The Animated Series back in the 90's and reading this book brought back memories. Jim Lee's artwork and Chris Claremont's writing made this the best X-Men book that I ever read. I became a fan of Chris Claremont's work in X-Men when I first read X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills and the Dark Phoenix Saga. If you are fan of the 90's X-Men: TAS or Jim Lee's art, I recommend you reading this book.

Great book but coloring not so much
I loved this storyline. X-men #2 was the first comic I remember buying. So when I seen most of jim lee’s art on x-men was collected I was stoked to get it collected to add to my collection. However something just wasn’t quite right about it. I don’t really see the need to recolor the entire collection. Tom Mason, a great colorist in his own right, made the colors too dark in some places. To me, it just took the magic away from the original.A great read, fantastic art and not taking away that with 3 stars, just wish it was in original color scheme rather than revamped.

An optic blast from the past!
Great collection of one of my favorite runs in X-Men comics. A classic battle with Magneto, the introduction of cool Wolverine villain Omega Red, Jim Lee art--this one has it all!
