Security for the road
These were exactly as advertised and great quality. Bought the 5 pack so I can throw them in all of my travel bags. If you read any kind of cyber security or infosec material it won't take you long to figure out why you need these. If your phone has ANY personal or work info on it, I wouldn't plug it into any charging station in any public place without using one of these. ChargeDefense even threw in a 12W USB charger(strangely resembling an old Apple charger...=^)...) for free. The company is out of Huntsville, AL and I BELIEVE the blockers are made here as well. Great product. I would buy again.

Good precaution to take.
Read about the risks of charging a phone in public. This blocks data while allowing charging. It’s a good protection against data theft or damage due to programs which could enter the phone. For the money it’s definitely good to have these. Used while charging in airports on my last trip.

I hope they work!
I never realized that people were stealing information from phones plugged in at public areas. I've never used one in an airport or mall, because I can wait to get home. However, I do go away and use the outlets to charge my phone. Then it dawned on me that a few times I do use the USB outlet some hotels provide you. I can't really tell if they work on keeping your phone safe, but charging doesn't seem to be affected by it.

Data pins are not connected on the power source side
I first bought just a pair of these. This is the review I wrote at that time: It charges my phone. I opened the case to verify that the data pins (which are present on both sides) are not connected. See the photo and circuit diagram. On the power source side, the data pins are not connected to anything. On the device side, there are a couple of voltage dividers that will apply a voltage to the data pins. I assume that this is needed, at least in some cases, to tell the device that this is a power source or something like that. I see that on other charge-only device listings, they only show that the power side data pins are missing, so I suspect that this is a standard technique. If you are really paranoid, you might think that these four resistors (I verified that they are at least resistors) could have something nefarious hidden inside them. I don't have the means of verifying that. You could replace them with your own resistors if you really want to be sure.
