Here's a comparison with your average walkman and this one. The audio quality is completely muffled. While tapes aren't exactly the best for sound quality there is at least some sort of standard but this cassette player doesn't even come halfway to it. I'm not too fussy with some background noise, slightly muffled sound or scratchiness. In fact, I expected it for such a low price. However this is an absolute waste of money. The flaws are impossible to ignore. It's especially noticeable with the singing. Sounds like the singer is taking a bumpy ride.However I couldn't be more pleased with the quick refund

It does not work, I have had three cassettes tapes chewed up.It seems as though the receiving sprocket is not receiving the tape and is getting the tape wrapped around the sprocket.There is also a problem with the "CD" power supply in that there is no sound coming out of the player when connected to the power supply, it is OK when battery powered the little it will play ??I don't know whether the sound is standard, but it is poor coming out of the speaker, and the earphones do not fit my ears. I was attracted to this machine when it was advertised as a dictating machine. It is difficult to hear what is being said.The radio works on one program only, as said before the sound reproduction is poor.

I bought this item with an Amazon Christmas gift card, confident with Amazon/customer recommendations after my 25yr old Walkman finally gave up the ghost. I wanted to use it while working on my allotment where I could listen to old tapes and the radio without disturbing other gardeners. Deeply disappointed when I plugged in the earphones to listen to a tape/radio. Volume control did not appear to work, I could barely hear a thing and tape kept slowing down. However, after I had put in a tiny piece of foil to 'tighten up' the batteries (not provided) and dug out an old pair of Phillips earphones, the sound quality improved tremendously. The tapes do 'jump' in slow motion from time to time so will mainly use it to listen to radio. Bit sad really, I shop on Amazon on a regular basis, buying anything from books to cat food to household goods, cleaning products, etc and never had a problem.

Ordered this for my sons 8th birthday as he wanted a cassette Walkman after watching Guardians of the galaxy. Item arrived in a fair amount of time, but when you go to put the tape in, the drawer bit is cheap and flimsy plastic and you have to forcefully pull it open. Would have broken in no time, was it not for the play button that didn’t work anyway and so returned the item. It fast forward and rewound, but he play button would not stay down to play the tape. The radio did work and it was an ok sound quality, but on the highest volume it was rather quiet. Wouldn’t recommend.

Very poor sound, not simple operation like the old (lamented) walkman. Only attrCIVE FEATURE WAS THE PRICE - WHICH PROVES "PAY PEANUTS - GET MONKEY"
