Worth every single penny
Bought this mic for my short films. Good audio will make your film or video production so much better. Bad audio stands out as bad and distracts. This is totally on the good side. Crip, clear highs, good bassy lows.Pros:CheapComes with a caseIncludes everything you'll need to get going aside from a recorder and a stand or shotgun mountSuper high recording qualityRuns on AAsCons:Gains are a little low, you'll have to boost them digitally or buy a preampHandheld mount bottom came off, but glued right back on

I like!
I am surprised at some of the reviews, but I can only speak for my unit. I'm using the device with a Fx7 rig and for me it works well. So far, I am just using the mini cable to XLR(I have plugged and unplugged it a good 10 times to make sure nothing about the mic was flimsy) , but even with that, it's much better than my old azden sgm-x. I can only imagine when I incorporate an audio adapter (beaches I am thinking) into the mix. It's a very solid feeling microphone (all metal construction) and the led is very nice and accessible at all times. The pickup patterns, I cannot say in my recordings I could tell a difference, but the "reach" of the device was very good and clear. The accessories that come with it are nicely packed and my only complaints is the shockmount and wind muff. The shockmount needs a second set of bands so that it will not sag. The muff, while I haven't tried it, compared to others I have, it seems sort of flimsy and I doubt it would be very effective, but I will try it sooner or later.Other than that, for the price, what you recieve and it's functionality, I think it's a great purchase. Much better than the previous shotgun I was using.. Highly recommended...

Excellent value and function.
I am a work-at-home consulting engineer in telecom. I do drafting in addition for cell site construction and equipment installation. Lot's of CAD drawings are involved and I have multiple large screen monitors in my setup. I have this directional microphone set up on a double-articulating boom. This allows the mic to remain a bit above my workspace and keeps the mic out of my view of my monitors. The super-cardioid pattern picks up my voice so that during remote meetings I can speak, view my screens and keep my hands free. All have said my audio is excellent and I never am asked to repeat what I said. The only complaint I have is that the on-off switch does not kill the mic audio when using phantom power. Under battery power the on-off switch kills the mic audio as expected. The mic will also work when mounted on a camera as it is very lightweight. All the necessary accessories were included in the package as well as a traveling case.

Great Budget Mic
I've used this mic for a few months now. Mainly for camera interviews and having it above both people about ten feet from their faces. It has worked wonderfully for that purpose. I also recorded a little acoustic guitar and I was very impressed. It's the best budget mic out there. Unless you want to spend over $300 for the Senheiser, go with this.

Decent Performer
I am a video pro with 25 years experience. I chose the XM-88 over the VidPro XM-55 because of the increased upper-end high frequency response. I am using the mic with Canon DSLR's.PROS:Does a decent job. The mic is quiet (especially when used with a quiet 48v phantom powered mixer like the BeachTek DXA-SLR Pre-amp). Comes with a handy little soft plastic case w/ decent latches that holds the mic and all included accessories. Comes with nice extras like the foam and dead cat covers, cables and mounts. Note: I never use camera mounted mics. That is asking for trouble. I always mount mics on a tripod.CONS:The mic is freakishly huge. The build quality of the mic is hardly rock solid. The on/off switch popped off when sliding the mic through the "rubber bands" on the shock mount but easily snapped back on. Also, the rear XLR connector is milled a bit too small. The XLR cable fits so tight that you fell like you will tear the guts out of the mic when un-attaching the mic cable. Using pro cables doesn't remedy this.I bought this as a backup for my Sennheiser MKH 416 P48. Doing an A/B comparison between the mics, it is apparent that the Sennheiser is clearer and brighter in the upper midrange frequencies. However, when editing, you can boost the upper mids a bit to compensate for this. I don't like "tinny" sounding voice. I like it relatively warm so I record without using the bass roll-off switch. I like to selectively control rolloff by employing a high-pass filter when editing. There is a reason higher end mics cost so much. Better build quality that lasts a lifetime. Better frequency response. Better off-axis rejection. Despite the XM-88's shortcomings, you can't really go wrong for the money. It is a very decent performer. I just simply couldn't give it more than 3 stars because of the build quality.

Great mic
I used these for independent video shoots. Gave me great sound. The travel case is great. I bought a second one because I liked the first so much.

Beautiful
I love this microphone and its great to use and easy to set up. I do suggest you get an audio splitter if you don't have both a headphone and audio port for your pc. It sound really good as well and is a great shotgun microphone.

Sounds like your subject is in a tunnel
Can't speak to phantom powered, as my cameras couldn't drive it unpowered. With battery power the noise floor is awful, and the sound is like the speaker is in a tunnel. Even less than a foot from the subject the sound was bad. Returned. Its cheap, and the kit is nice, but if you can't get even passable sound its not worth spending anything on

El micrófono es bueno para el precio.
El micrófono es bueno para el precio, los accesorios que incluye son de baja calidad. Hay que comprar cables de mejor calidad por separado.

it’s ok but really need to £100 and get a quality mic ..
so this arrived today and i have just tested it along side the audio techinca . i bought recently.. it picks up well from the front as it should but you can clearly hear the difference in quality between the two.. for a starter kit and maybe a spare this mic is ok .. i think regular use in the field will begin to show its flaws.. it come with 3x XLR leads one short , one long. and one with TRS.. two wing covers a battery and a TRS adapter.. with a case . BTF Fgor the money it functional and a good place to starti did to to upload a video but it would work i really don’t think it’s worth me recording it’s it’s not bad but not great ..
