we do coffee tastings on a regular basis. We have used many styles of carafes the lever handle is best by far. It doesn't stay compressed due to faulty mechanics. I do have one that might be iffy (I have three), but with extra pumps it works fine. The inside is glass so, yes, if you drop it hard enough it will break, but what doesn't? These aren't rubber! The glass liner means the coffee stays hot!! We use high altitude brewers which mean coffee is dispensed at 205 degrees. The coffee goes into these carafes and we only fill to half full. The coffee legitimately stays so hot that we have to warn people doing the tastings that they can get burned - - 7 hours later. We were shocked at how well these do! They are a bit smaller than others we have used , these hold about 15 cups of coffee (one and a half pots) which is perfect for us! I highly recommend and have recommended. The only downside is cleaning is a bit harder, then again a smaller mouth means the coffee stays hotter. There is always a give and a take. I use a bottle brush and they clean up nicely. Having the little outside window alerts me to when I need to rebrew, keeping the coffee hot as well. There is a plastic cover over the glass see through window that helps to insulate it as well. It's a great carafe.

The entire inside shattered after just 1.5 months of normal use...and because Amazon only offers a 30 day return window, it cannot be returned.
