Love & Olives

WAY deeper than Rom-Com
This book stunned me with its beauty.[spoiler warning]Olive is a young woman coping with the trauma of her father‘s emotional neglect and trying to make sense of his mental illness (bipolar) and the CPTSD symptoms she carries from his inconsistent caregiving. She’s understandably afraid to let him back in her life, and the book is about how she navigates her boundaries, accepts that he couldn’t be the parent she needed, and finds a way to keep what’s good in him while being realistic about the complexities of his illness. She’s also learning how to identify and risk vulnerability with safe people - people who show up better for her, instead of people-pleasing everyone to avoid more rejection… which means she starts getting loved for who she is … which reinforces her growing sense of worthiness and let’s her step more fully into self-acceptance.Truly, it’s a beautiful book - a masterclass.I also have a bipolar parent (like the author), and this story made me feel so seen. It made me cry. More than a little. It was exquisite. The author’s dad, fellow author Richard Paul Evans, is out publicly about his bipolar and known for his Christmas stories, paranoid rants, and posse of loyal fans. A complex being if there ever was one. And the author clearly loves and is devoted to him. (See their FaceBook live interview about the book on his Facebook page ... the elephant in the room: there's no mention of bipolar.)Jenna, if you see this review, thank you. Thank you for your courage. It’s HUGE - what you’ve done here. Incredible you wrote it. Incredible the insights you offer on the impact of mental illness on children. Incredible the grace you offer the characters.I think it’s one of the deepest books I’ve read, and you accomplished it in the young adult genera. And made it beautiful and hopeful.I’m gobsmacked.Thank you, with all my heart.

Fun summer read that pulls at the heartstrings
I really enjoyed this book and the characters. You can really feel Olives emotions and feel her anger and frustration while also being sympathetic to the other characters. You are transported into the setting of Greece and it makes you want to go visit. I can't think of any problems I had with the book.

Searching for Atlantis.. oh and not to mention a life beyond that
***CONTAINS SPOILERS!!***I really enjoyed this book although I was a little disappointed that it didn't connect with her other books like the author did with the two previous books in the series, at least I don't think she did. I did find myself relating to Olive a lot as I dealt with losing people within my life, including my dad. I think I have found myself highlighting some phrases within the novels itself which really goes to showcase talent.I had a feeling that something was going on with her dad, and was mentally preparing myself for that. I do think that the author did a good job represting each character and storytelling.

Jenna Evans Welch NEVER dissappoints!
I really wish I could give this book more than 5 stars!! I am a day one fan of Jenna Evans Welch, each book she’s written is a wanderlust riddled journey full of magic and all the feels and I JUST LOVE IT! I really loved that she chose to focus more on Olive and her “personal baggage” (let’s call it that as to not give any spoilers) and that this book was not solely a travel romance but so so much more. This book truly takes you on an incredible journey and also teaches you a lot about Greek culture. Loved and highly recommend this book and her others!! ❤️

Fall in love with Greece
I have always wanted to travel to Greece and now that I have read this beautiful book I want to go there even more! I absolutely loved this book and seeing how the main character found herself throughout the book! Sometimes you have to get away from your everyday life to find your true self and this story proves how important it is to find yourself. I also learned a lot about the story of Atlantis while reading this and now I am intrigued by the lost city.

Good characters but it went a little long
I enjoyed this series very much. Fun, light rom-coms with nothing offensive. A nice break from heavier books, although this one does address divorce and abandonment issues.

Beautiful story
A very uplifting and hopeful story of a girl desperately trying to "find Atlantis" and reconnect with a father she barely knew. I highly recommend reading this book.

Jenna's best book yet!
A year ago, I read Love & Gelato in one day. I completely fell in love with the story, the characters and Jenna's writing, so I got really excited to read Love & Luck! When I read it, in over a month, I really enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as the first book. Still, I got pretty excited for Love & Olives. I've been waiting to buy it for some time now, because there's no translated version of it here in Brasil yet. When I finally started reading it, I became completely infatuated with the characters and this gorgeous story! Safe to say it was my favorita Jenna Evans Welch book yet, she is so talented and I admire her very much. This book is sooo worth the read, trust me. I don't normally write reviews but I really wanted to share what an amazing experience it was reading this beautiful story with amazing characters ❤
