A beautiful lock with some gotcha's ...
This is really a well designed lock in many ways. It remains to be seen, however, how well it will stand up to the weather. It is very important to note that it requires AT LEAST 1½" between the gate and the post. THIS IS NON-STANDARD and if you are mounting it in a gate frame as I have done, it will require some improvisation. They don't warn you about the space requirement in the description, so beware. The other bit of nastiness with this contraption is that the mounting holes for the latch mechanism itself require a pair of u-bolts which are NOT provided in the kit. That's OK, except for the fact that the holes are sized ¼" and spaced at 2". Again that is non-standard and it is difficult if not impossible to find a u-bolt that fits those ¼" holes and accommodates their spread. If your gate is an outside gate, which most are, it requires either galvanized steel or stainless steel to avoid rusting. And that make them even more difficult to find. I ended up getting much smaller u-bolts and actually stretching them to fit the holes and then cranking them in. Not a nice solution, but the best I could come up with. This unit would easily get 5 stars from me if it were not for the mounting debacle. If the mounting holes were 5/16" instead of ¼", it would have made things a whole lot easier.

Works great on my newly installed fence gate.
Product was exactly as described and installed easily. As I needed a means to lock my gate so that my dogs couldn't manage to open the latch this was perfect. As with any gate latch I might have gotten, you have to verify that it did catch because sometimes it might stick a bit and the drop lever might not fully extend. However in three months of use it has functioned flawlessly. I'd reccomend it to others as a means to latch a gate, especially a large five foot wide one like I have for the fenced dog run.

Slightly modified the gate and it works great.
Will probably require some modification. I had to rotate the hinges 45 degrees to get enough clearance. Also drilled the holes out because I couldn’t find any u-bolts that size. It works great once you get it mounted.

Rusts quickly
I live in Florida and installed it 2 weeks ago. It’s already starting to rust. That’s crazy! Not sure how I’ll feel 6 mos from now. Disappointed. And I already installed another recently.

Nice gate hardware is a joy that I did not ...
Nice gate hardware is a joy that I did not know I was missing. This thing latches securely and without drama.I have a dog and needed a two way gate latch that I could depend on. The gravity latches are narrow enough not to snag when moving past. Plus It baffles the door to door sales folks...which is fine!

Easy to install and use.
Very easy to install and use. Just a finger to lift either locking sleeve and it opens. It really is finger light to lift. Door closes and positive locks as the sleeve slides over the ramp on the bottom of the locking mechanism. Took ten minutes to install and re-tightened a week later.

Not for standard chain link fence gates
This appears to be a latch which will work for standard chain link gates . It does not fit at all. I made it work by completely renovating the latch, welding a lengthened tongue and drilling new holes for brackets. Once this was done it worked beautifully. I don't understand why this company does not make this latch to fit standard chain link yard gates it would be relatively easy to accomodate all but now it is a nightmare. The pictures don't tell the story and the dimensions given don't tell you the post side size limits.

I love these latches
I love these latches! I weld them to wrought iron dog runs and they work fantastic. Easy to use and the animals never get out. I have bought 10 of them. I give a 4 star instead of 5 only because one of the latches was faulty and allowed the slide bars to slip completely out and I had to put pins all the way through the latch to repair. The latches are welded to gates, so not able to return and so I don't know how the manufacturer would be about responsiveness to returns.
