In line surge suppression that makes a nice addition to using a whole house surge but nothing survives a direct spike.
I have been on a quest for the past year to eliminate the need to have to unplug my expensive audio and video equipment every time we get a nasty storm. I installed a whole house surge protector but I learned that if you get a direct lightning hit right outside of your home, even a whole house surge unit is not going to protect you. They suggest you use that in addition to other forms of surge suppression such as outlet ready surge suppressors. Even those used in conjunction with a whole house surge can't withstand a direct hit. If the hit is farther away, yes it can help. So this in line surge suppressor is one part of a larger arsenal designed to thwart destruction. This is an inline unit so when you use this on a circuit you can have a couple of outlets that will be protected, up to the capacity of the unit, without having to have individual surge outlet boxes on the floor.I also acquired two backup generators that are petrol driven, and wanted to secure my food that I have in two large freezers in the event of an outage. The problem with gasoline generators is that their electricity isn't too clean. One of them has a line conditioning component, but protecting your equipment from line noise is important. Items like refrigerators/freezers, and comparable pieces of equipment are not a sensitive to line noise, but expensive electronics are. This device is designed to filter high level noise that is above the normal operating range of devices. Best thing to do is consult with an electrician in choosing which device is best for the line load you are installing it for, as well as the method of installation.

Increased circuit protection
As rare as it may seem, we have had a house in our neighborhood that was unexpectedly hit with a direct lightening strike, which did severe damage and set it on fire. It had no lightening rod or arrestor, but the low level of the roof strike made it almost unbelievable. We do get line surges, too. I have expensive electronics at home that are used daily and are vital to my business, so I had an electrician install this extra inline circuit protection, which is a straightforward piece of hardware and appears to be well designed for the purpose. The LED indicator for active protection is a nice feature that you don't always get with similar devices.

Surge
This is a great way to protect your electronics. This is easy to use as well. Will help save your electronics from bad weather. Took me about fifteen minutes to get this installed. Very nice to have.
