I LOVE this book
I LOVE this book. The only negative is the tiny print in the answer section. I own over 75 bridge books, though I am a relatively new player. I'm am a serious student of the game, however and this is the book I keep picking up to study. Great, easy to understand logic and insight on defense and play of hand.

A remarkably well-written book
The appearance of this book belies its value. Typically Klinger, the typesetting is tight and the answers (at the back) are tiny and require magnification to read. But oh the quality! For the past dozen years, I have been searching for a book that could communicate declarer play as well as this book, and I can say that this is the only one I have found that accomplishes that goal. Other books may be good at what they do, but this book does it all -- and makes it easy to digest. But don't read it from cover to cover. Pick a topic, read about it, take the quiz, read it again. You will understand why this was the Book of the Year from the American Bridge Teachers Association. It deserved the recognition.

Guide to Better Card Play
Even after reading Audrey Grant's "Better Bridge Play," and "Better Bridge Defense," Eddie Kantar's "Introduction to Defender's Play," and "Introduction to Declarer's Play," and David Bird's "Cardplay Made Easy," "No Trump Contracts" and his various 25 ways books, and Carole Sydnor's Bridge Made Easy series. I still found enough new material in this book that I learned things in most chapters. In fact it is so packed with material that I had to read it twice to get good scores on the multitude of quizzes in the book. Where other books usually give the rules, Klinger not only discusses the rules, but then includes the diagrams of the various combinations to show why his rules gives the best number of chances to win more tricks.I found this book too difficult until I had read the other introductory books listed in the previous paragraph. So I would say that this is not a book for beginners and novices. Read some of those other books first. Then get a copy of this book if you willing to struggle some more to get the quizzes right.

Most Recommended!
Ron Klinger has written a very thorough, easy-to-understand, yet concise book that teaches declarer play and defense very well. And the quizzes at the end of the chapter serve to clarify the concepts. I cannot recommend this enough. This was selected as the Book of the Year by the ABTA in the year it was published.

Excellent text book
I agree with all the other reviewers here. This really is an excellent comprehensive text book, suitable for eveyone from second year improvers onwards. I've been playing ten years now and still found it full of useful tips and revision. It's well organised into 32 logical chapters, giving equal weight to declarer play and defence, so it's easy to use as a reference/lookup book. It's also packed with loads of exercises and revision tests (which I must admit I usually skip now) so it would be ideal for a classroom situation.

Excellent instruction
Ron Klinger is one of the world's top bridge teachers and this book will help all who want to improve their card play at Bridge. It covers all the topics that a winning card player needs to know. I use it with my more advanced students, saving me hours of time inventing hands to play. Unlike many bridge books, this one seems to be error free.

best bridge book
Great if you are fairly new to bridge or if you want to consolidate your acol conventions with your partner. It helps mostly with bidding but also gives tips on making extra tricks. This book really goes into great detail about each type of hand and I enjoy the many exercises that come with each chapter to help learn what you have read.
