This slim, but hefty, little volume makes a wonderful companion with which to journey around West Virginia. Lots of detailed photos and clear explanations will give you insight into the deep history of the Mountain State. Learn how the Appalachians are older than the rings of Saturn and the "New" River is older than the Mississippi. As a native to this beautiful state I found the scientific definitions and descriptions only deepened my love for my Mountain Mama

Enjoyed using this book while traveling to and from New River Gorge NP and Preserve. Enjoyed having a professional explaine what I was seeing.

Really cool and informative book. Easy to read without prior knowledge of geology. Beautiful photos and diagrams.

Purchased after hearing an NPR story about this book and it was even better than expected (there was no "Look Inside" option when I purchased it), and the cover does not imply a quality published book. But! The text is well written and there are high quality photographs throughout (as opposed to the Pennsylvania edition, which just has line drawings).

This a well written, easy to understand and use book. Extremely informative.
