Daughter of the Deep

A brilliant narrative inspired by an old classic "20,000 leagues under the sea".
Rick Riordan, the writer of the gods (small g - for those who get the reference ;-) ) has once again delivered a brand new take of a classic story. For those who don't know, this book does NOT deal with any Pantheon of gods, instead it's actually almost a fan's interpretation of the question - What if Captain Nemo and his adventures were real, and what if you are his last living decendent?Almost 150+ years since Captain Nemo died, this story picks up in HP institute, an institute that is responsible to create some of the finiest people to serve in the Navy. But they have a deep secret too. They have a rivalry with a competiting institute named Land institute and a cold war going on for the past 150 years. HP are the custodians of Nemo's technology and guard it from governments and corporations looking to make a buck. LI (Land Insititute) on the other hand want to use Nemo's tech for the "betterment of the world", and will even kill to get their hands on it. Only time will tell on what happens of this 150 year old rivalry, ....time and reading about it in this wonderful book.Rick Riordan has done a fantastic job in taking inspiration from the Classic works of Jules Verne and breathing life to new characters like Anu Drakar, Gemini Twain etc. The story is fast paced, with each chapter leaving you wanting for more. My only regret is, I think this is a standalone book and I don't know if Rick is planning for a sequel. But what a story this is :) do check it out when you get the chance.

Intriguing new series
My kids have read the Greek and Roman demigods series as well as the Egyptian series of Rick Riordan. They were always wondering out loud if he would ever write about Indian mythological figures the same way. This is right next to it. The book heavily references Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne and is a swashbuckling adventure throughout with nary a lull. Wonderful. The kids and their 47-year-old mother read the whole book without putting it down even once. Wonderful!

An enthralling journey
After a very long time, Rick Riordan has given a new storyline which is full of thrill. Though it was a slow read at the start, the story really picked up in the later half. It’s a must read for those who seek adventure…

The product is great just a little damaged
The media could not be loaded. I ordered this book along with Sun and the Stars from cocoblu retail and they just sent both of them without protective packaging and were given to me in a courier bag and both of them were damaged, the sun and the stars was damaged a bit more than daughter of the deep so I'd request you to use a lot of packaging for books like these coz the delivery and shipment people just toss them and whatever over all the product is fine but I requested a replacement for sun and the stars.

As expected of the great Riordan! (Please read the full review)
It was a bit unexpected that it is related to my country so much. Still It was so very cool and I want this to be a series ( but uh please don't take too long to write the other books as you took for this one :)please I'm not that patient) . By the way I read all of Rick's other series) I'm still 11 years and 8 months.I'm reaching my demigod hood in 4.19 months on 28th of march.

Very good. Can’t put it down.
My name is Myra and I am 8 years old. My mom bought this book for me as a Christmas present. It’s a very adventurous book where Ana Dakkar fights another school called Land Institute with the help of 19 other freshman. She also tries to reform her own school, Harding Pencroft.

A Fun and Highstakes Rick Riordan Stand-alone
I'll admit, it was kind of strange reading a stand-alone, non mythological Rick Riordan novel. Strange, but not in a bad way.It didn't feel super different from a regular RR novel, because it is inspired by both Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. This was like Jules Verne mythology, and it was so much fun.Ana Dakar, a second year (out of five) at Harding-Pencroft Academy is preparing for the test that will determine her future at the school. She attends the school with her older brother Dev, and her parents died two years before in a naval accident. When a horrible tragedy occurs when she and her fellow classmates are on the bus to the exam, their lives and realities are instantly changed.I loved Ana and all her friends - they were all very well-rounded and developed, as well as diverse. Even the side characters were well developed with their own personalities. I loved how Ana grew and developed under the new position and pressure she is now under, as well as her "fake it till you make it" attitude. Her character development was wonderful, and I loved her bravery and how she never waved in her own morals. And I loved how much diversity there was. It's probably the most diverse book I've ever read, and it was amazing. The plot definitely kept me on my toes. Even though I knew something was going to happen on Ana's bus trip, I had know idea what devastation was coming. (Also I loved how her school and their rival school had "The Land" and "The Sea" aspect since Epcot at Disney World as areas named that). I never had great ideas of what was coming next, and every plot turn left me shocked at what all was going to happen. It almost made me want to read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The plot twist near the end had me shook. This was such a great sci-fi boo, a great middle-grade book, a (I assume) a great Jules Verne-inspired boo, and a wonderful book in general. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
