Family Happiness

So happy
Laurie Colwin is one of my favorite authors. I am so glad her family commissioned audiobooks of her works. The narrator is wonderful and brought to life characters who have stayed with me for years.

Old fashioned love story with a twist
This book was a little slow or difficult for me to get into because of her style of writing, but I hit a certain page, and ...I hung onto every word. I can truly identify a lot of what this woman goes through in her life. I really ended up enjoying the book and was very happy with the outcome. It is a good book about family interaction, complexity and the relationship the main character has with everyone else in the story. The sexual content is only implied, not detailed or really descriptive, so there should be no offense taken to anyone who does not care for this aspect of the story. Yes, it is a bit dated, but I imagine the reader audience would be a mature woman. I appreciated her incite into her complex life. This book is different than any other I have read.

What makes a good wife?
This question is asked quite a bit in this book. I read this because it was rated one of the best books in a newspaper article that I read. Well, I do not agree with that but I did enjoy the book. If you want to ponder fidelity this is the book for you. I did like how the wife "found herself" and stood up for herself as time went on.

Wonderful Author!
I found a reference to this book in one of Ellen Hildebrand‘s books. So I decided to read one of the books of Laurie Colwin. This book was a beautiful example of how simple writing can touch the very core and heart of one’s soul. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I will now read more of this authors books!

The Force of a Family
At first I thought this book about a particularly stifling upper-class family was satire. But it was not. It was real, about the liberation of a woman from this family. Author faithfully sticks with her main character until the end, then declines to tie things up with a neat bow.

Horrible
It was a somewhat interesting read, hence I finished the book. But what horrible people in it. Everyone is a snob, even the painter. The main character Dotti, cheats, lies , makes it all like her husband fault. After he changes , pays more attention to her she intends to end her relationship with the neurotic painter but then says screw and keeps cheating on her husband. This book drivels with upidy opinions, everything gets looked down on and that's by the writer herself. Seems like almost a period piece written in the 18 hundreds. Not one good character, her mother is awful , both her brothers are and her father don't care. Beate is the most miserable of them all, the Swiss should sue over the way their people are portrait. Like I said it was entertaining because the writer uses words and plot well but again I do like to cheer for someone and nothing of the sort in here

Great cogent read..for thinkers who like to reflect on. Life.
As a first time reader of this author I am very moved by the theme. A life unexamined turns painful and therefore interesting. This way of life is so foreign to my experience that I did a lot of reflecting which I enjoy greatly. I will recommmend!

Interesting Title for the plot
Book came highly recommended from an article I had read about must read books. It took a bit to warm up to but proved to be a good read. Not sure it left me with a sense of completion about the turn of events.
