I have no idea why, but this pad works with some USB-C cables and not with others. Specifically, it works fine with "Amazon Basics Double Braided Nylon USB-C to USB-C 2.0 Fast Charging Cable, 3A" but doesn't work at all with "Amazon Basics Double Braided Nylon USB-C to USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) Fast Charging Cable, 3A" which seems like a pretty fine hair to split to me. I tested 4 cords, 2 of each type, from 4 sources: 100w and 60w outlets on a dual-port wall brick, a different 15w wall brick, and a laptop port which think provides 60w. All those ports work fine for other things, as do all the cables. When plugged into either of the 3.1 cables, the red power light doesn't come on at all and it doesn't charge. Works fine on the 2.0 cables.It would surprise me less if it was the other way around, and worked on 3.1 cables but not 2.0 ones. But it doesn't. To me that's a pretty severe flaw. Otherwise it's a great device...slimmest one I've seen, build quality and materials are excellent, works flawlessly when it's plugged into the right cable.

I was surprised to realize that it would not charge through an average iPhone case

Charge isn't strong enough, it barely charges my phone and it has to be in exactly the right spot... I don't recommend this wireless charger as it's the worst one I have ever used
