Always wrong .

the first one I got didn't work at all, the screen was all screwed up. So I returned it and got another one, not only does it feel cheap, but it will not work out in the sun, I was attempting to get a reading on a riding mower engine outside but it wouldn't read anything so i had to go inside my garage and shut the doors almost completely to block out the sunlight. then after that the readings are all over the place, it says you can read withing 50mm-500mm which is 5 cm-500cm. so it should work if its atleast roughly 4 inches away, well inorder to get a number that was even close to possible i had to have it atleast 8-10 inches away. because this thing was telling me that my riding mower engine and almost idle was running 29,000 rpms. anyways i do not reccomend this product one bit and i would spend the extra money to get one of some quality.

This instrument is virtually useless to me. The instructions were non-existent. No matter how many times I tried to get it to give something approaching meaningful results (such as "close" to correct) it failed. It was not even consistent from one reading to the next on the same test piece. My main effort was to establish the rpm rate of my metal lathe. It was totally wasted effort and the money I paid was a complete waste. If there was a zero star available for rating this item, that is the ranking I would have given it. This unit is pure junk!!!!

some training required

This thing did not work. It was registering values for rotation when I was moving it around in my hand; and was showing nothing when I pointed it to my ceiling fan. I even tried it with a piece of the reflective tape that was included, and it was showing very wrong values. for example, I checked the RPM of a 500rpm motor; and the values were jumping all over the place any where from 600+ to 1400rpm. I could not have confidence in such an instrument. I had to return it.
