Very sleek
Set out to look for a vent hood that was slim enough to sit just underneath the upper cabinet above our stove. The existing one installed by the builder was large and hung so low that anytime I cooked on the stove, I had to duck otherwise I would get a severe head injury. The existing hood - knowing I was utterly clumsy - was bound and determined to leave a nice indent in my head. RUDE!The Kobe hood took care of any future injuries I may have endured. This is a great hood and worth every penny! It's sleek, has good lighting (that doesn't heat up - LED!), good suction with different speeds, quiet mode is super - you guessed it - quiet, and restaurant style baffle filters that are easy to clean. The only issue was losing space and making a larger hole in the upper cabinet to accommodate for the hood mechanicals/duct work.

Good hood, poor packaging
If anyone from Kobe is reading this, the packaging needs to be improved. The box is solid and the hood itself arrived undamaged, but when I opened the box it was filled with a million little bits of styrofoam. In transit the fan housing, mainly the mounting brackets, had shredded one of the protective styrofoam panels. (Sandwiching the styrofoam in sturdy cardboard, at least on the inside face, should solve this.) The hood was in a plastic bag but the bag wasn't big enough to fully enclose it and wasn't taped, so bits of styrofoam were in every corner inside the hood. After vacuuming up all I could see I hooked up the hood in the garage to test it. When I turned it on more styrofoam poured out of the exhaust vent. i noticed a squeaking or whistling sound at low speed which ended up being due to a piece of styrofoam wedged between the fan drum and housing. I spent at least an hour cleaning bits of styrofoam out of the hood and my garage floor. Even if you don't see bits of styrofoam floating around the box or hood you should definitely set it up and run it before installing it.Apart from that problem the hood works fine. Once the styrofoam was cleaned out the rest of the installation was fairly straightforward. Having the fan in the cabinet above makes for a cleaner, low-profile look. It's reasonably quiet on the lowest setting. I bought this to replace a Kobe range hood I bought in 2004 that needed a replacement part that won't be available any time soon. That fan was a higher end model and it's not really fair to compare them - it was quieter on the lowest setting and more powerful, with dual fans - more of a professional grade unit. For the money this hood is a great value and looks good. I think I'll still hold onto the old one, though, until i can get it fixed.

Looks great works great
It’s clean sleek looking and works great.. I typically use it in the quiet mode or low and it clears the air well. The high mode is a bit loud I’d only use that for a few minutes if I need to clear the air more. Great purchase.

Never had a range hood that cost you sleep? This may be for you.
This fourth range hood obtained from Kobe was the first that could be mounted so that it was not a visual disaster. Three came with obvious surface warps and irregularities that made it impossible to mount beneath a frameless cabinet without a disturbingly uneven seam. This one came with a damaged motor mount that made a repeated, loud banging noise on low speed as the motor continuously hit and rebounded from the housing containing it. I feared that another replacement might fix the motor and bring me another warped hood, so I took the motor and housing apart and re-shaped quite bent parts, replacing a completely missing mounting screw and nut, and adding washers so the existing machine screws would not fall through openings widened by over-torqued assembly procedures. Additionally, I threw out Kobe's installation instructions and created my own custom assembly -- the only way a satisfactory installation can be done, in my experience. It included detaching the hood from the motor housing, mounting the motor from inside the cabinet, not from below, adding a piece of 3/16" masonite with black-painted edge to drop the hood far enough below the cabinet to avoid scratching the hood's top with bottom-mounted cabinet pulls, buying longer stainless machine screws to attach the hood, sealing the gap between hood and motor with aluminum tape, protecting the sides and rear of the cabinet that the hood leaves exposed with more aluminum tape, and adding an internal aircraft-grade aluminum right angle brace to keep the hood from drooping at either end. Sound like a lot to do? It sure is. Add to that experience that four orders/three returns and my custom work took months to have a working range hood, and you can see what I endured. Sadly, I had purchased a cabinet with a Kobe hood in mind, and that severely limited my options when trouble arose. If you are adventurous, you might want to have one. Mine now works, and its slender, modern style -- what attracted me to it in the first place -- is unquestionably attractive. But the experience I had demonstrates an absurdly poor level of quality control and a shocking lack of consideration for installation issues one is likely to encounter that its design has absolutely no accommodation for, save those a consumer is able to devise on his own.

Overall is good, installation is a little tricky
Installation is little tricky if you have it back on drywall and does not have a stud in right place to hang. I actually secure one side on a cabinet board

The best priced, powerful, modern range hood you will find
The media could not be loaded. Beautiful design, slim profile for modern kitchens. This is the only reasonably priced option with powerful cfm, if you're in a retrofit situation, like I was and you're not interested in a slide out hood. Great suction and the filters clean easily in the dishwasher. Much easier to clean than my previous mesh filter. The filters are very heavy but they are held up with a retractable hook plus earth magnets so that its easy to install and remove.Like others have noted, you need to hardwire this unit out of the box, which was not compatible for my situation. The wires are also really short. I bought a wired plug (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B015R1Z08I?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) to solve this. Very easy to do, and it allowed me to test the unit before installing it on the wall. The unit is surprising held up by only two brackets at the top of the unit. I was prepared to add additional supports on the sides to prevent sag, as noted in other reviews, but as I went through the install process, realized this was not necessary. I used the cardboard box that the unit came with to make a paper template of the overall unit and brackets to correctly mark the screw locations on the wall. Once you hook the unit onto the wall with the first 2 screws, the unit might sag a little, but as soon as you tighten them up and add the final 2 screws each side of the bracket, it lift up and sit super snug under the cabinet.Very happy, huge improvement over my previous unit. Makes cooking and cleaning with a gas stove a lot easier.

Good quality, functional and good price but requieres time to install
Similar to other reviews installation was not that fast. I reinforced the back of the kitchen cabinet to provide better support and added some brackets (stainless steel for bookshelves also from Amazon) to avoid sagging. It has been working for 6 months and we are pretty happy with this hood.We use low and mid levels for the most part, unless we are deep frying. Loud on the high speed but expected.Good quality, functional and at a reasonable price.
