Ozco products really make your project stand out
I also wrote a review on other Ozco products I purchased. This is a continuation. I designed and built my first pergola for our patio in 1999. At that time decorative accents simply were not available. As I was researching hardware for this project I was amazed at what was on the market, especially Ozco's building products. I really think their robust hardware really makes a project stand out.I purchased numerous products of theirs to accent the rough cut cedar pergola as you can see by the photos. They are not cheap, but they are also not cheap in quality. I did spend a lot of all of them combined, but I really think they make the pergola look great. Many friends and family have commented on how great the black accents look, and plan to use them in their projects.

If your using pressure treated wood, expect the wood to shrink and your brackets won't be touching
This is a great product and made installation and building of a pergola simple. One thing to consider, if your using pressure treated wood, when you set your post and beams the beam will have all it's weight on your post, and you'll think - great, job well done.Fast forward 2-6 weeks later as your wood begins to dry and shrink, your beam will no longer be sitting on the post bracket. The only thing holding the weight of your roof will be the 5" lag screws that come with this set. I installed these in 2 different style pergola's that I built, and both of them all the way around were no longer touching. There was about a 1/8 to 1/4" inch gap between the post and beam connector.Lucky for me, I had put a 6" lag screw above each of my brackets and I went around and adjusted all my post beam connectors so they were flush/touching again. If you don't add that 6" lag screw and you go to adjust your brackets, down goes boom.I'd recommend not using pressure treated lumber, or letting your pressure treated lumber dry out a bit in the sun before assembly. While your PT can take up to a year to fully dry, at least 2-4 weeks of direct sun will make a big difference vs taking it off the shelf from HD or Lowe's and it's still dripping wet.

Solid hangers
I built a 12x12 pergola using these. Out of all the ozco these were the best made product. Worth the investment for the nice look.I finished the top later on. Don't worry.

Works well
These work well and look nice. I wanted some hardware showing compared to simply putting a bolt through the support beams on a pergola. Note that the connectors aren't actually connected. They are a set of two pieces. This works ok and if anything, is better than the traditional route of a bolt through the post since you have a little bit of downward support. OZCO makes it this way so they can support varying size boards. While it works and look good, if I had it to do over, I'd likely go with Simpson as their solution is to sell different models of the product for specific size wood rather than having an adjustable fitting. This was much better priced though, so in the end, I'm happy with the purchase and how it all turned out.
