I actually use it as a cover for the bird ...
I actually use it as a cover for the bird feeder underneath. A squirrel broke the last cover by flying from a branch around 10 ft. away and crashing onto the cover/baffle. Let's hope he learned his lesson and will not do it in the future. I have a different baffle to prevent squirrels from reaching the bird feeder by climbing up the pole. What I would suggest is to devise some sort of tie down mechanism to secure the cover to the bird feeder below perhaps with some type of elastic strapping device. I leave it to the experts to figure that what one out. We do love the overall design of the bird feeder with the top so hopefully a way can be found to secure better the top to the the actual feed container.

We've stopped feeding the squirrels - YAY!!
This is the only squirrel baffle that we have ever purchased that has completely deterred the squirrels from even trying to attempt access to our birdfeeders anymore. I'd highly recommend it.

When I received this, it was cracked at the top end..and think it was missing a piece to hold it in place on my shepherd rod.

The stupid (or genious) squirrels manage to jump onto the top ...
Read mixed reviews and tried it anyway. The stupid (or genious) squirrels manage to jump onto the top of the baffle and with hind legs on baffle and front paws on bird feeder sway a bit, but manage to clean out the feeder. Useless.

Works as advertised
I have a feeder arm hanging off a balcony. The squirrels were climbing out from the railing, over the arm, and hanging down to raid the feeder. This baffle has completely thwarted them. They are unable to reach the feeder from the top, and the baffle is long enough to prevent them from jumping onto the feeder from the balcony. I have a mesh-ball type feeder that isn't very long. This may not work as well on a longer feeder, but if you have one that tucks up inside it works well. The birds have no trouble getting to the seed. As long as the squirrels can't reach the feeder by jumping from the ground this should be squirrel-proof.
