Bijzonder, gevoelig, een verademing dat zulke boeken nog worden geschreven.
Met geen enkel boek te vergelijken, heerlijk om te lezen.

Keeps you invested
Small pleasures are indeed what make life worthwhile.Take this book. It was a big pleasure. Pleasurable from start to just before the end. Writing like this normally doesn’t make it to awards lists. Because It’s not overtly clever, it’s not difficult, I don’t have to re read sentences to understand metaphors, it’s not new, pathbreaking or bold. It is just simply pleasurable writing. Stuff my childhood dreams were made off. Books I grew up on back when the written word was the cure for everything. It’s good old pleasurable writing which makes for simply pleasurable reading for the sake of kicking back putting your feet up, sipping on coffee kind of reading. The story keeps you interested from the get go and the characters are loveable. Jean the main character is a 39 year old woman living a non exciting life and making the most of small pleasures wherever she can find them. This one is a woman’s book if there was one in the long list it would be this.May I just add that these days I am so happy to be reading so many books based on women of this age group! Definitely makes for more interesting reading.

A very enjoyable book
This was chosen as the 18th title in our book club and enjoyed by every member - a first! Although the author was born in the 60's she managed to describe life in 50's with remarkable accuracy and detail which was most nostalgic for all of us who remember that decade. I was concerned that the truth, when it was revealed, would be far fetched but the ending did not disappoint.
