The Songs of Donovan Piano, Vocal and Guitar Chords

Donovan's music is written better here than in other books that I have seen. Some of the stuff is difficult or I'm not really sure how it should sound but over all it's a joy to use this book

Good book of now obscure but important vocal music. I bought this book to transcribe "Try and Catch the Wind" to a bluegrass format. This book was very helpful.

Great collection of the works of a singer/songwriter who never fully received the credit he deserved.

The best part about Donovan's music how singable it is. This is easy to master "flower children" singing at its best. It's great with guitar, but I accompany with banjo and also have a lot of fun with it.This is a good place to start if you like doing acoustic folk-rock.

some of Donovan's best songs that I had learned back in the 1970s and had forgotten. Nice to get re-acquainted with them.

Haven't checked every song, but I think the words and chords are all correct. My only complaint is the song selection. Many songs I never heard are included, and a few hits are missing. Book does not include: There is a Mountain, To Susan on the West Coast Waiting, Hey Gyp, and Happiness Runs.

This has all the sheet music for most of the Donovan songs we all knew from the 60's. Exactly what I wanted.

If you just want to strum standard chords and sing along to some Donovan songs, this may be the book for you. However, a quick look at some youtube videos will reveal the missing details; on Colors for example he is clearly using an open tuning plus a capo, yet the book renders the song using standard open chords. There are numerous other such simplifications. Donovan was also an accomplished fingerpicker, and none of those details are present. I was also annoyed at the lack of "Fat Angel", one of Donovan's top 10 best songs IMO, yet there are several lesser known songs included. Also, ordering the songs chronologically (rather than alphabetically) is annoying.

Not the best, but was the only I found.

bought for gift for a bloke who sings Simon and G songs and like Donovan - so hope it was a good gift
