Protection without any degradation in image quality.
I've found the Breakthrough filters to have the highest quality from the glass to the metal ring which just feels good. In my test, I've not been able to identify any loss of image quality. This is with the D810, D850, and z7 which are known to highlight flaws. The image is a damaged filter. My lens rolled off a big travel bag and hit the cement. As you can see, cracked and shattered the filter. The Z-mount lens is still operational. I believe the filter took the impact and shattered, similar to a motorcycle helmet's purpose. This is unexpected for me. Yes, I use filters for protections but that protection is mainly prevent cleaning the front element of the lens, fingerprints, branches, sand, etc., not for an impact of this nature. I was packing up the gear, so the lens hood was already reversed in place for transport.I guess the fact that I've purchased the exact same filter as a replace says it all.

A Noticeable Improvement!
Not sure you can appreciate a good UV filter until you have used a bad one. I know some say these are not needed on a DSLR lens but I would rather clean dirt and dust off a filter than the front element of a lens when I'm in the middle of nowhere. I now have two X4 UV filters, a 95mm and the latest, a 72mm. The 72mm replaced a UV filter that came on a lens purchased used. I was getting lens flare very easily with this lens and I suspected the filter was the problem. Also noticed a slight reduction in contrast when compared to the same photo taken without the filter. Not a real problem but it was there. This X4 UV fixed all of that. Where I was getting lens flare with no problem before, even when I wasn't expecting it, with the X4 I can't seem to get it even when I try to. Contrast is as good and possibly slightly better than with no filter, but I don't have a big enough sample size to say for sure. The X4 is definitely better than the old filter. I have always used B&W filters and I have no complaints with them. I wouldn't want to try to determine which performs better, but I do like the knurled edge on the X4. Not as likely to get stuck. Only complaint, they are expensive!

Best filters on the market
I put UV filters on all my lenses. I don't baby my equipment and a UV lens is cheap insurance against scratching the lens or destroying the coating on the lens from overcleaning (a lesson I learned the hard way). The problem with most UV filters is that you are putting cheap glass in front of the expensive glass of your lens which can effect the image. Breakthrough filters use the highest quality filter glass I've found and its held in place by the best ring I've found — strong, good grip and even looks good on my lens, if that matters. I own more than a dozen of these filters and haven't had a single problem with any of them. These filters are an easy five stars.

Breakthrough Photography - A great filter
I am an amateur, not a pro, but I've been shooting 35 mm since Gerald Ford was President and DSLRs for a long while. I've owned Minolta, Sigma, Tiffen, Hoya and B+W filters over that time. The Breakthrough are simply great filters. The lugged external ring makes installation and removal simple - no wrenches. Of course, the brass ring also helps as it is self-lubricating. The Schott glass speaks for itself in quality. The coatings appear to my eye to be spot on. It was more expensive than the B+W I was going to buy, but I do not regret my purchase. It's a wonderful filter.

Delicious!
Initially hesitant at first about this filter, but caution prevailed and I’m pleased with the outcome. It fit my Canon EOS 7D like a glove. 😎
