I have a tree that occasionally drops small branches on my roof and I was worried they'd get go down and get stuck somewhere inaccessible in my gutter downspouts or, worse, in the underground drain pipe the downspouts connect to that goes underground all the way out to the curb in the front of my house. A clog would cause issues and would be a pain to unclog. Better to avoid the potential issue by stopping material before it goes down the "drain."While I'd thought about installing the gutter covers (the ones that install across the top of gutters and allow water to drain through while leaves "wash off" the gutter), I don't have that much debris to worry about and wanted a quick/cheap solution. This type of drop-in solution was super-quick (I installed all four in 10min total, and pretty much all of that time was moving the ladder to the next drain).While these were a bit more expensive than others I looked at, these appear to be more sturdy and the mesh sizing was perfect. Too small a mesh and they'd clog easily/often. These worked perfect and I'd recommend them for a quick solution.Note: If you have tons of leaves in your gutter, these or anything similar will almost certainly get clogged at the gutter drain (you'd have to go up and clean the leaves out of the mesh at the drain). For a "tons of leaves" situation, you should probably bite the bullet and get the complete gutter cover type solution.

I replaced the old strainers and this are much better and sturdy compared to my old one.

I had my downspouts buried and the pipe leading into a swampy pond. I don’t want the frogs and turtles who live in that pond to crawl up into the pipe and get stuck. This was the only product I found that capped the pipe while allowing the larger gunk to flow out & keep frogs from going in. And best of all there are four of them in the box

These 304 stainless steel downspout guards are really well built and won’t rust out. They are much better than the cheap strainer type that always clogs and don’t allow water to flow. These guards should stop leaves but also allow for water to pass. They are pricey but should last a lifetime. Be sure to order the right size and measure the opening of the downspout in the gutter.
