Didax Educational Resources Working with Pentominoes

I was disappointed since I hoped to be able to use the DVD for classroom instruction on the chromebooks.

This is an excellent book -- I'm so glad I took a chance even though there were no other reviews. This book has 75 pages of games and activities for working with pentominos, with a few introductory pages on suggestions for a classroom teacher, as well as a few pages at the end with suggested solutions. There is a resource CD in the back with a digital copy of the book. The pages have a large, clean layout. The questions range from simple calculation to potentially impossible. I was worried it would be rectangles, rectangles, and more rectangles but there is enough variety to keep kids inspired for an entire school year, if not more. One great strength is that it teaches kid to record and tabulate solutions, which is a critical lead in for the organization needed in higher math. The book says it is for grades 4-8. The math needed is only perimeter and area so if your child works with Beast Academy, they can start this book after Beast 3A, although there is nothing babyish about it that would turn off an older child or even an adult.I also purchased Learning Resources rainbow pentominos bucket, which a great quality, and the novel Chasing Vermeer which involves pentominos in the mystery. Between these three resources, my kids haven't been this excited about math in a long time.

I am so happy with this product! This is great educational tool! Enjoyed by my grandchildren and adult children. Creative problem solving!

I haven't used this yet, as the school year hasn't begun; however, I know Didax quality and expect that it will be excellent.

I bought this based on the review that mentioned it went over well after using Beast Academy 3A, and I've been very happy with the purchase. Though he is younger than the age range suggested by the manufacturer, my kiddo enjoys the puzzles, and the area and perimeter problems are no big deal. It is obviously written for an older audience, though. There's nothing cutesy or whimsical about this book. Still, it has served to further extend my kid's learning about polyominoes and kept him happily entertained.I was excited that this book comes with a digital copy on CD. The puzzles can be completed on the computer without any physical pentominoes and pages can be printed. However, you can only print one page at a time, single sided, which I find frustrating.
